    Crap, Crap, Crap

I've spent most of the day putting the bike back together. Had the carbs off for rebuild, and had new E3's put on Friday. Any way, I get it all ready to fire and the battery is low, so I put the charger on and go do some yard work. After an hour or so, I give her a little choke and she fires up...

My really cheep, I mean inexpensive, blast cabinet

Psst... I did read that too, brain fart. My thinking is, with a port in the cabinet, you will be able to utilize all the vacume and have air movment through the cabinet. Your idea would work equally as well, not tryin to offend or slam the idea. Andy

My really cheep, I mean inexpensive, blast cabinet

Great idea. Have been working on a blast cabinet as well, only in reverse order. I started with dust collection 1st. I too am going to use a shop-vac. My idea was to run a short lenght of hose form the cabinet to a 30 gallon trash can for collection, and another short section of hose to the...

    Carb rebuild

Thanks for the replys. 2 questions: 1. under the main jet there is a washer. On the 1st set I did, it was brass. On this set, its rubber. Is this normal? Or did the PO take a short-cut? 2. On the #2 carb the PO broke the tip off of the air screw and the little broken end is stuck in the...

    Carb rebuild

Greetings all, Doing another carb rebuild, have the dip, have the o-rings from Bob Barr, also have a couple of question. 1. What exactly is lightly seated? To me, it's just snug or when the pilot stops turning easily w/o crushing the o-ring. 2. I'm not sure the jets are stock. The carbs...

    Sand blasting chrome

If I remember right, I did some research about 15 years ago on this subject. Take your parts to a plating service, I think what they do is plating in reverse. Instead of adding crome they reverse the plating process and remove the crome, leaving bare metal for you to polish, blast or whatever. I...

    exhaust pipes

What I think you'll run into, is the way they mount at the rear. Some have a welded tab and others have a bracket and their all different for each year,I believe. At least that's what I ran into when I was looking for a set for my 81 850 "L". I didn't get an exact match, but only had to do a...

    Stainless steel wool

I'm pretty sure you can get the SS pot scruber pad that Mcloud posted about at Wally-World for a few bucks.($3-5) I think that's where I bought it, works real good for scrubbing the cooling fins on oil pans too. Andy

    Tire life

After reading the search results for an 850 GL, It looks like the Dunlop E3s are the way to go for high milage. The only negitive I saw is they harden up if you don't use them. Any other negitive comments, aside from price? I think I will buy a set of these for my Alaska trip. How much will the...

    Chrome Powdercoat pics

I've done some of my own too. I scored an electric dual oven range for $40. Have a 100 amp service in the garage wired it up and away I went. I don't think I took any pictures, just put the stuff right on the bike. I did the calipers, front master cylinder, oil filter cover and float bowls. All...

    My crash story

I 'm pretty sure any wreck any wreck is a bad thing. If you can walk away or heal, your ahead of the curve. I thought about rebuilding my bike, more for theraputic reasons than to ride it again. After looking it over and finding the frame was broken in at least 4 places, I decided not to. I...

    My crash story

update... update... Greetings all, Well, since I've been back to work things are getting sorta back to normal. I should say, as normal as they will ever get for me. I had another MRI late September and follow ups with the doctors, the good news is no new damage. The bad news is the numbness...

    polishing methods... which way?

Steve, Your bike looks great. Nice job.SW Ohio to WNY shouldn't be too awful far, maybe you could stop by and put a shine on my bike. Should only take a day or so...:) Just kidding. I do like the looks of your wind screen, where did you get it? Does it rattle or squeek? How do you like it...

Hi Scott, Hope you had a great turkey day. I think we're in for a long winter, I've had 4 days off for the holiday and all I've seem to get done is shovel snow,so far. Any plans to come to our WNY rally in June? If so,great. If not I'll see you at Moosehead in August. Andy

    pre muffler rubber washers

It takes a little doing to get the gromets in, but they should go. They came out with out too much trouble(although they had more oil and grease on them). Once the gromets are in place, the steel sleeves slip right in. Andy

    HELP! Pilot Air Screws

I'm not a carb expert like some of the guys here, but if I remember correctly, 2 to 2 1/2 turns out from a lightly seated is a good starting point. Andy

    Tranny/Shifting problem

OK chef, here is your success story! The bike is on the road and running, shifting and doing everything else it should be doing well. A buddy of mine came over and we tinkered with the clutch shifting linkage and cable, this is where the problem was. After putting it all back together and...

    Tranny/Shifting problem

Thank you Mr. Nessism for your suggestions and help. I think that also where the problem lies. If the are a fresh set of eyes in my area that wouldn't mind stopping by and taking a look, I'd be most appriecative. In the mean time I will pull the cover and look over the machanics of the...
