A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    V&H exhaust rant!

It's unfortunate that V&H is one of the only options for a lot of these old bikes. I personally think they are absolute crap.

Possibly done before, what do you carry for tools??

The only thing extra I carry from the stock tool kit is a flat repair kit in the form of the little rubber gummy worm type plugs, a reamer and the plug tool. I carry 3 17gram C02 cartridges to fill with. Oh, also some spare fuses.

    Titanium Aglets! At last!

You guys obviously don't deal with Areostich much! They have dozens of items in thier catalog to play games with your head. My favorite was the gallon of invisable paint and the cop repellant whistle (like a deer whistle for cops).

    My daughter does!

I was about to give you a hard time for posting a pic of your brand new, 2011 Suzuki motorcycle instead of a vintage GS... then I looked closer and, HOLY CRAP that's a clean GS... nicely done!

    GS average life expectancy

I spend a fair amount of time on the FZ1 forum for obvious reasons and there is a guy with an '06 like mine that he just rolled 100k miles on. My buddy has a '99 (I believe) ZRX that has easily over 60k miles on. I think it all comes down to care and feeding. Treat 'em right and they will go the...

    Circlip pliers workaround

Have 3 sets of nice Craftman snap ring pilers in all sizes. They have lasted me years and years now, and I don't see them wearing out soon.

    Help me out new englanders

Western MA is a close second to VT as far as epic riding goes in NE... I could write you up a nice route out there as well. I used to live there. It's also a good jumping off point for some riding in Southern VT.

    Help me out new englanders

If I want the best riding I can do within 500 miles, I head to Vermont, hands down. NH is good, some of it great, but not like VT. I know it so well that I could write up a route for you easy. Are you going to be riding on the weekend? That makes a big difference. If he is riding West to Lake...

    Say no to extractors!!!!!

I've had great luck with extractors. Gotta make sure, like EXTRA sure you are using the biggest possible size you can. Best to be drilling a hole in the broken bolt that almost reaches the threads. As said before, get real good ones, and also use real good drill bits that cut clean. Little blast...

    Parking in the city (Boston)

I haven't done this in a long time, but when I used to spend a lot of time in town I would always park my bike right on the sidewalk. As long as it was out of the way and people/wheelchairs could get by I never had an issue.

Rose And I Do some landscaping (or, How we wrecked at BC Rally)

Ugg, frackin' gravel... definitely a disadvantage to motorcycles. I find that in NE anyway, the corners aren't usually dirty for long. I most often go on blind faith that I'll only slip for a moment, so far I've been lucky in that respect. Heal well you two, you have a wedding to get to on...

How to cut a paper gasket

^^^ that is how I do it too. Using sheet gasket material, I spray a light coating of wd 40 on the part, then set it down on the gasket material. The wetness leaves behind the exact shape of the part whichI then cut out with a razor knife. I have die cutters for the bolt holes.

Spent some time in the "man-cave" - From Wreck to Restoration

Excellent! It should be real nice once again! Now don't go throwing it around when it's back together, OK?

Give me clues about full throttle.

I agree with the main jet theory above, but also think it can be a number of things. Keep in mind these CV carbs are a little slow to respond between the slow and fast carb circuits. At least that was always my experience. Both my bikes with CV carbs and pretty much stock jetting would not go...
