A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    '78 GS1000E restoration project

Thanks, I don't recall seeing those sites before - it is while since I googled GS1000. No - not really much progress to report in a thread. Rather stop and start over the last 5 yrs !!!! :-\\\

    '78 GS1000E restoration project

Thanks for the info psy. It certainly rings true as I can't recall ever seeing a GS1000 on spokes in NZ. A couple of years ago I tried contacting Suzuki NZ to see if they have any history/achives from 78 - they never got back to me. I am quite curious about my bikes history - it's numbers...

    '78 GS1000E restoration project

Yes it does also have the stripes on the top of tank and tail. Mine is very faded these days and the outside stripe is almost a gold colour (I will try to take a photo and send it in the next few days). If our bikes were in the same part of the world I would have suggested they were accessorised...

    '78 GS1000E restoration project

Looking great !! your progress has inspired me - will have to get back in to gear on mine. Mine is exactly the same colour scheme as yours and yes it also has the GS on top of the tank. I was just looking at the tank the other day - thinking about getting it painted and I wondered exactly the...

    Northern California

G'day Bob, Got to the superbikes at Laguna Seca a couple of years - our house was less than 5 miles from the track so it would have been a traversty not to go !!!. Spent many hrs at the corkscrew !!! Great memories. It is a long time since I did Hwy 1 north of Santa Cruz so I can't picture it...

    Northern California

I have to agree with this one !. I lived in the Salinas valley (just off HWY68) for 3 yrs. I didn't have a bike over there, had to settle for a Mustang convertible, but I always have an eye for good cycling roads. Always felt that there were quite a few around those parts and have it on my mind...

    Nitrogen in the forks?

I agree with most of the contributions above (except I have never tried progressive springs, so can't comment on that option). In the days when my GS was in use as a daily driver (more yrs ago than I care to admit) I was involved in an industry where I had ready access to nitrogen and used it in...

    GS1000S Wes Cooley? Engine?

My go to for frame/engine info is http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/suzi/engine-nos/engnos.htm, whether it is accurate or not I don't know but it does seem reasonably authentic. Anyway, based on that, yours would actually be an S or E from 1980(could be it was late 80 and registered in 81...

    GS1000S Wes Cooley? Engine?

From what I can understand the motors in the S & E all came from the same serial # sequence and are therefore the same spec. In my understanding what would make it "original" and therefore of greatest value is if the engine is the original in that frame. If you can confirm this then you can make...

    GS1000S Wes Cooley? Engine?

If it is a 79 S the frame number should be something like GS1000-52**** -the S's apparently began at 521285 in 79 and 528511 in 80 so it should be somewhere between those. The engine was the same as the E (same serial sequence 121074 to 145969), including carbs & cams (according to the specs...
