I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    near death and back

I'm glad you're okay. Things can happen so quickly. I always thought I was in decent shape. In June I suddenly started having blood in my urine. Next thing I know is I'm in the ER and then to surgery to have a kidney removed because of a 4 inch cancerous mass on it. Hoping I'm clean when I take...

    1977 GS750 (now 850 ) VM26SS Carbs / replacement jet question.

Zed likes to believe his air correctors replace the need to raise the jet needle position to achieve a good air/fuel ratio at 1/4 to 3/4 throttle positions on the VM carbs. Some owners might like the idea of installing a jet at the carbs throat instead of what should be done, which is make the...

    Dynojet stage 3 tuning HELP

Before you found the fix, I read your posts and it sounded like you thought the bike was running very rich. I thought the opposite, that the problem you described was actually momentary fuel starvation, caused by a sudden drop in vacuum when you opened the throttle any quicker than the set up...

    Dynojet stage 3 tuning HELP

Glad you have it running well. The nylon ring, with or without the thinner spacer on some carbs, have caused assembly issues with several models. If they are installed in reverse or not installed at all, the mixture will suffer. I'm not familiar with your 550's carbs but the nylon ring...

    Seeping float bowls??

If you're buying new o-rings for the fuel T and fuel tubes between carbs 1 and 2, and 3 and 4, for VM26 carbs, I assume your fuel tubes are not the rubber coated versions? If you have the tubes that use o-rings be aware that the o-rings sold by Z1 are NOT the correct size. The Z1 o-rings are...

    Seeping float bowls??

My delivery from Z1 was sooner than expected, about 5 days I think. I do have an update on my float bowl gaskets. After about a month and about 50 miles, I noticed a small amount of leakage from 2 of the gaskets. Not a big deal right now, but I thought it was 100% fixed. I have stainless steel...

    Seeping float bowls??

I also had weeping bowl gaskets and made a topic recently. My fix was the Z1 gaskets. They're softer and more pliable. I didn't use any grease. I can see where a light coat of bearing grease could help the bowl gaskets, as it does when used on the valve cover gasket. My opinion is some of the...

    Mid-throttle carb syncing

Don't synch the carbs at "mid-throttle". There's no benefit as far as tuning. You can easily over-heat the bike too. Synch at about 2,000 rpm's unless your manual says otherwise. Adjust the rpm's by using the idle control knob underneath. It's much easier than using the throttle. Refer to the...

    Vacuum leak?

So you've eliminated a problem throttle cable as a possibility. You exercise the rack, it appears to move freely but the bike still sometimes hangs up at 4,000 rpm's. At 4,000 rpm's you should be able to notice the throttle valves opening. I wonder if one or more are hanging up? When the bike is...

Who can help me out with 79 GS1000E carb sleuthing? VM26SS with Dynojet questions

Tom, I hope your bike runs well in the end. As for your broken exhaust stud, you said just a little is sticking out? What about spraying some penetrating oil on it, a couple of sharp hits to possibly jar the threads, let it sit a while, re-spray, then warm up the bike several minutes. The idea...

Who can help me out with 79 GS1000E carb sleuthing? VM26SS with Dynojet questions

I think you've spent too much time on that little island. Forgetting how to talk to people without getting all bent out of shape is one of the signs. Your "air correctors" are nothing but restrictors. They provide LESS air flow than the stock air jets do. With less air flow than stock, they...

Fuel fouled plugs at idle, and a high rev.

Using the choke, on a fully warmed up/hot engine, will lower the rpm's or stall the engine, depending on how much choke is used. It's normal.

Fuel fouled plugs at idle, and a high rev.

Your hanging idle issue may be related to the timing advance. Many here have had the same issue with a rotor slipping or other part not operating as it should. I'm not familiar with your model but as an example, I installed a Martek ignition on my '79 1000 back in 1980 to replace the points...

Who can help me out with 79 GS1000E carb sleuthing? VM26SS with Dynojet questions

zed, I certainly wasn't trying to school you on any part of carburetion. I make a comment with the understanding that other members may be reading/interested. I'm convinced your way is not the right way. Adjusting the jet needle is, plus it doesn't cost a thing or create a possibility of...

Who can help me out with 79 GS1000E carb sleuthing? VM26SS with Dynojet questions

By the way, Tom, check the fuel "T" and fuel connector tubes for leakage. Generally, you check before mounting by adding enough fuel. Since you already mounted them just be sure there are no leaks. The stock, rubber coated tubes can leak if they're disturbed or "dry out" if not in contact with...

Who can help me out with 79 GS1000E carb sleuthing? VM26SS with Dynojet questions

zed, I understand the operation of an air jet. I understand what you're saying about your air corrector. Unfortunately, your corrector is nothing more than a restrictor. In my previous post, I focused on your corrector possibly increasing air flow because I said you couldn't actually mean...
