A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Looking at the 2019 Yamaha FJR1300A. Any experience, opinions appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate them. I doubt I could ever do an Iron Butt ride. Maybe start off with something easier, like a Balsa wood Butt ride?:o

Looking at the 2019 Yamaha FJR1300A. Any experience, opinions appreciated.

I love my ZX14 but the ergo's are getting to me as I get older and opening it up now and then is probably going to kill me. I need something a little tamer and easier on my back and wrists. The FJR seems like a nice bike that's been around and I'd think has any bugs worked out by now. It's...

How can fiddling only with Pilot Air screws cripple my gs850

Working on an older bike that's generally more simple than the newer bikes, should be easy for a mechanic. But many mechanics today have no experience with older electrical systems, carbs, etc. The GSResources is a far better place to go for help. If you follow what the members here say, you'll...

How can fiddling only with Pilot Air screws cripple my gs850

Remember, the pilot fuel screws are used to assist the pilot jet. They provide for fine tuning each cylinder. Because there are differences in each cylinder, such as compresssion, you will very often find that your final screw adjustments are different for each cylinder. So 1 turn out may work...

How can fiddling only with Pilot Air screws cripple my gs850

OK, stock exhaust. It's difficult to give spot on jetting advice when you combine pods with a stock exhaust. They're a poor flow match. "IF" your jet needles are factory and the factory set them at position 2 from the top and the jet needle nylon spacers are in the correct assembly order, then...

Also. Double check your jet needle assembly with a parts illustration. Be sure every part is there and in the correct position.

How can fiddling only with Pilot Air screws cripple my gs850

I didn't read all the replies. I hope this helps. The "marbles" sound suggests a lean condition. The pilot circuit has some affect but it's the jet needle position that contributes the most here during typical throttle use, though the main jet factors in if you're fully opening the throttle and...

Just saw this thread. Glad you're getting better, Dave.

You ready to park your GS?

The EPA fvck's up everything they get involved with. I was reminded of that just recently when I bought a new gas can. Now this. Thank goodness I have a non-ethanol pump just 2 miles away. 91 octane too! Costs $4.20/gal (southern Utah) but I'm happy to have the choice. I wouldn't want to fill...

gas dripping from crankcase vent tube

Smoke and gas coming from the crankcase breather tube means the crank was over-filled with oil and your petcock was leaking fuel into the crank. Both are fixed now. With CV carbs, a torn/poorly installed diaphragm will allow a bike to idle all day but as soon as the throttle is touched, it stalls.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Oh well, story of my life. I always seem to be a little late. I ride up to the Kolob reservoir when it gets hot around here. I was already kind of planning on meeting you next time you were out this way. My family is still in So Cal'. It figures it would be your last trip. I'm happy for you that...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Red, I wished I'd known you were going through Zion. I live in Hurricane, just about 40 minutes east. I'm guessing you took the 15 North to Highway 9 East? If so, you passed my house within 1,000 ft. I noticed in your other thread that you've done your San Diego to Michigan trip about 8 times in...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Assuming your carb work was good does narrow it down. Either too much fuel to fire or poor fire. Would still check the petcock for any leaking. Block it off like you say and re-test. Double check fuel level in the bowl. Check for good spark. Swap the sparkplug and re-test. Process of...

tensioner, ...... then I broke it

I don't bother with the stock tensioner anymore. I bought an APE manual tensioner and no more worries. Easy to install and set. Mine was $60 a year ago.

    hanging idle

I once had a similar "hanging idle" issue that was also electrical related. When my bike was 1 year old ('79 GS1000E), I converted the points to a system made by Martek. It used a collar that slipped onto the shaft and was held by a small set screw. The set screw came loose and allowed the...

One of the coolest part of my new old GS

People always like to see things that remind them of when they were younger, especially if that thing is in great condition. I get compliments on my GS now and then, but I actually get more on my ZX14. Recently, I've had 2 compliments on my 14 while waiting at a red light. I couldn't hear well...

    that #*&!@ choke plunger

It's not just being careful how you tighten the Philips screws, it's also how you hold/position the fork as it's tightened. If you just let the fork lay there as you tighten the screw, the fork can end up being a tad higher or lower than you want. This can lead to one or more forks not...
