I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

i took the carbs back apart tonight. i don't have the right snap ring pliers to get the needles out. i realized that the needles are significantly different lengths. they are about 1/8" different or a little more. one of them is looser than the other. I think they were worked on and put back...

installing the dynatek i finally got all the parts in the mail and got it put together. I don't know what was wrong with the old ignition. could have been bad plugs or caps for all i know, as easily as a bad ignitor. But when I found out that they don't even make the non resistor plugs anymore...

    1982 GS450 - dynatek - advancer/timing help - what each marking means?

alright, nevermind, i finally dug it out. T is tdc, F is fire. the mark at the end is advance. the "I's" are the timing marks. I got the plate set, she fires and runs. I was able to actually sync the carbs and stuff finally and get her running right. Still backfiring a bit in the 2-4k range, so...

    1982 GS450 - dynatek - advancer/timing help - what each marking means?

I just finished installing a dynatek ignition system on the bike (model #DS3-3C for posterity). Everything's looking good, i'm getting good spark and all. Now I need to set the timing, and I'm not able to find much information on what the markings mean on the advancer unit. Looking at the lobe...

Yea I guess I'll find out. If it's still broken with a new ignition then at least I'll know. and it will have a new ignition ... it wouldn't be the first time i've thrown parts at it in vain. My intake boots for instance were fine in the end. But at the same time they weren't looking hot...

recheck for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner, none found. It's colder today - One cyliner was visibly producing white smoke, or vapor - which I presume is probably unburnt fuel from a misfire (it wasn't doing it every hit). I can hear it periodically stumble/miss. It's in the left cylinder, which...

I'm still having running issues. it's hanging like it's lean and taking a long time to go back to idle. -compression in both cyls is good, 155 (the one i re-shimmed) and 145 -I peeked at the advancer, it's free and the springs seem strong here's the plugs though. these are the ones that came...

well, it's pretty much done now. Yesterday was insanely productive. I stayed up late and knocked off the rest of the list, mostly electrical stuff. flasher relay replacement and sh775 mod. I even oiled the chain. it's pretty much down to just slapping on the seat and tank... The flasher relay...

stripped carb bowl hole - best thread insert?

Yea I thought about that too. I looked for some m5 hardware but couldn't find any locally that had a small enough head to fit. I'd have to order a bolt online. I do have a m5x0.8 tap so it's an option in the future

stripped carb bowl hole - best thread insert?

yea, there might be. I'll revisit it at some point. I've still got a broken cam cover bolt to deal with eventually so I'll probably do them both then. fingers crossed I just won't need to take the carbs apart again for awhile. the carb bowl screws are m4-0.7's. the above hardware was like 5...

stripped carb bowl hole - best thread insert?

yea. that's what i ended up doing. I'm not wild about it, but it does work. I picked up a #6-32 bolt 3/4" long and a nylock nut at home depot. Just gotta remember to keep an 8mm wrench in my kit i also gotta take the bracket off the bottom now to get the bowls off. but I guess that's my stupid...

stripped carb bowl hole - best thread insert?

Sadly, I've discovered a small leak from the carb bowl that needs fixed. One of the screw holes is stripped out. I tried cleaning it up with a tap but I don't think it had quite enough meat left to hold it. One of the carb bowl screws was replaced by a PO, and they didn't add a lock washer. I'd...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

well that's good to know. I'm still new to this machine. The best I could do was to compare my experience to what I could find on youtube, which isn't a whole lot - not many 450's on there. most bikes i've seen on there, they just kick it over and it goes straight to a nice idle. Once I got the...

well i'm back working on this project after a few month hiatus. I'm having similar issues to what i had before. i replaced the intake boots. the airbox looks good and i replaced the stripping around the lid and oiled up the filter. It's still running pretty weird. I did get a new petcock also...

yea i guess i'll find out. i was gonna mess with the sync a little and see what happened, it being a twin i figured it can't hurt to just twist the knob and see what happens. But I didn't have time today. i stayed up way too late reading and overslept. thru my research last night i learned that...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

Today I accomplished my goal of hearing motorcycle noises! She ran! Started right up. I had problems though. I have a high hanging idle issue. It goes straight to 4000rpm's and won't come down. I messed with it a little bit but mostly read the forums. - although the intake boots look ok...
