A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    rear hub spline

Thanks for the reply. I'm also thinking is it looks good enough for now but I don't have a feel for how quickly the wear accelerates.

    Dead cylinder #4!

Loosen the drain plug to see if fuel is in the bowl to eliminate a stuck closed float valve. edit: I see we had the same idea at the same time.

    rear hub spline

OK. Got the tires replaced with Shinko Tourmasters and pulled the spline (1982 GS1100GL) to see how it was doing. This is a little more than 23k miles. I've gone ahead and ordered a new one for the next tire change, unless you guys think I should wait for the shipment and change it immediately.

    Where's the juice?

I just bought one (regular lead acid) from Wallyworld for $40 bucks. This will probably be my next one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140499587739&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

    Where's the juice?

Bad battery is my guess also. If you have a load (short) than can pull a good battery down to 1.5v, you're going to smell something burning or blow a fuse.

i laid her down, now i feel like an idiot.

I keep a hand mirror nearby to do a quick check of the oil level while I'm on the bike before I crank it up.

    Installing Carbs.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the nipple". On my cable, the end piece (whatever it's called) slipped through the j bracket. If yours doesn't fit through, it sounds like a different cable. you may have to replace it. Here's a "before" picture of my choke cable end. It's the little round piece...

    New Intake Boots

I've not used Partshark yet. They are listed on the GSR Welcome page. I take it then your question was more related to using something other than OEM? I'm no help there.

    Replacement carb bolts

x2 on Ace for metric bolts. That's where I got my carb cap and intake tube replacements. Just take an old one in and match it up.

    Stuck Intake Boot Screws

I ground the heads off with an angle grinder, then used vice-grips to remove the studs. Of course, I already had bought new intake tubes. :D The studs came out pretty easily. I suspect the heat or vibration from the grinder loosened them up. You might try some heat to go with the PB Blaster.

Fuel Level - Searched but still don't understand

I was fully aware of the difference between the bench set and on the bike running. My experience so far is that the results are satisfactory. Please refrain from snarky comments.

Fuel Level - Searched but still don't understand

In my case, I already had the carbs off the bike but connected together, so I mounted the carbs on a wood post over the bench using a couple of nails and leveled the rack. This way I could take the rack on and off the mount to remove/install the bowls and adjust the float tangs easily. I took...

    Split Petcock Vacuum Hose

Thanks, I had planned to replace the fuel hose while I had them both off and easy to get to. I guess the question "to clamp or not to clamp" will depend on how well the new hose fits.
