A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS450LZ: Replacement Petcock fuel outlet not oriented correctly

Yep Yep That's just right! The suction created by the vacuum port ensures that the diaphram remains open and it takes very, very little (which is good since very little is generated by the carbs). I don't think the vacuum port on my GS1100 could collapse a plastic straw, much less a rubber...

New tire has a nail in it.

Come on! Come on! "Ashamed"??? "Unforgiveable"?? While the point of his post escapes me, I think you'd do well to lighten up a couple of notches. He's not asking you to ride his bike.:-s

Fuel line popped off inlet on carb. Easiest way to reconnect it?!

You're welcome!:) I hope it works. When I did it, it was kind of frustrating but well worth the effort, considering that the alternative is removing the carbs......UGHHHHHHH!!

Search Search Try the search feature. I've described a way that works well using a gutter spike and other members have used other methods. It's there, so there's just no reason to go through the whole thing again.

    Maunal petcock conversion?

Interesting! Interesting! That's very interesting!!! On the U.S. models, the '79 1000S is fitted with a 44mm spread petcock (with a handle) and the '80 1100E has the 50mm spread petcock (with the crummy slot). After I thought a little more about your posts, I thought since you're in...

    Maunal petcock conversion?

50mm 50mm I didn't see where a 50mm adapter plate was available. Are you certain your 1000 has a 50mm bolt spread. (I've never heard of it on any model other than some of the 1980 models.) The size of the petcock needs to be really, really small to work on the '80 GS1100E....as...

    Maunal petcock conversion?

No fit! No fit! That one looks good but it won't fit on Bubba's bike. (The '80 GS1100E has a 50mm bolt spread on the petcock.):(

    Maunal petcock conversion?

Tight fit Tight fit Be advised that the Pingel is a REALLY tight fit on your bike. It will work, and work well, but when you're putting it in place, give careful thought to exactly how you want it to be configured on the tank. The clearance is much smaller on the '80 than the others. HINT...

To choke or not to choke.

Which hand? Which hand? I always use my left hand to engage my choke. Is that the best method or will it start easier if I use the other one?

    Hand grip Recommendations

Normal? Normal? I would be concerned that there is some other issue that's causing the excess vibration. I have essentially the same bike you do and I've never noticed any vibration that seemed excessive or irritating...at any speed.

    1982 GS1100E carb line question

Vacuum port Vacuum port You'll want to cap it for sure since the Pingel you'll be using isn't a vacuum type of petcock. (I think they make one but that's not the one you'll end up with.) P.S. If you were running a stock petcock, that's where the tube from the carb would connect.
