    gas in oil while running???

Hi to all and thanks again for all the past help. A few things to ask:: 1) Does anyone know if it's possible for gas to get into the oil while the bike is running. And if so what a possible cause would be. I don't think it's the petcock because the fuel line doesn't leak when removed. I'm...

    Another Oil Question

A few recent posts spoke about not using "Energy Conserving Oil" and it's got me thinking. I have used Castrol GTX religiously 10-40 in winter and 20-50 in summer and have sworn by it for years in all my vehicles. Last winter I rebuilt my top end (82 gs1100gl). My first oil change afterwards...

    82 gs1100 starting issue

Thanks guys, I've done a good amount of work to bike already. The top end has been redone, valves etc. I've replaced the o-rings at the manifold. I haven't rebuilt the carbs though. The bike does run very well so I feel like I don't want to ask for trouble but maybe it is due. What is...

    82 gs1100 starting issue

Hi to all and thanks for all the previous help. When I start my bike it will almost always fire up instantly and all is fine. The problem is, if for some reason it doesn't fire up on the first try, (even if it sounds like it almost did), it will just turn and turn and not even sound as if it's...

    Another R/R - stator question

Thanks to all for the replies and as usual all the great advice and help. I will wire it directly first chance I get. Eddie V

    Another R/R - stator question

I recently had connection problems with my r/r. In tracing the wiring diagram it seems 2 legs of the stator go directly to the r/r, but the third leg runs up to a connector under the gas tank and then a jumper wraps it back to several other points and then to the r/r. Does anyone know the reason...

    R/R connector

Thanks. I actually picked up a 4 pin connector that's used to wire a trailer. I'm not sure if I'll use it or not. the stock plug fits nicely into the square notch so I was hoping to get the same. It seems to be a standard plug. I also bought a dial voltmeter that I'd like to install so I always...

    R/R connector

Does anyone know a part number/ supplier for the R/R mating connector. I need to replace mine on a 82 gs1100gl. Thanks. EddieV

    Charging and R/R Question

I'm pretty sure the manual spec is 75 volts ac between all three legs of the stator.

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

The cable brand is motion pro. Does anyone know of it or experienced any problems?

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

I bought it off bikebandit.com. I think it was only listed in the after market section. I couldn't find it on there OEM section. No, it doesn't have an adjuster in the middle.

    Oil Coolers

I remember a past post that indicated certain models had a smaller tank. I think mine is one of them. I get 40-45mpg on my 82 gs1100gl. I ran out of gas once at about 140 miles on reserve when I first bought the bike mistakenly thinking my gauge must be off because the tank should hold 4.5 gal...

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

By the way, if anyone has any insight on this. The new cable may be a bit longer. Both the adjuster on the clutch end and the lever end are almost all the way out to get a proper adjustment. There's not much left to adjust if the cable stretches at all which I'm sure it will. Any ideas on what I...

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

Thanks for all the info. I changed the cable this weekend and I had only two strands remaining. No doubt one more clutch pull would have snapped it. I tend to agree though, it's good to know we can shift these bikes without clutching if we have to but it's probably best to clutch overall. Thanks...

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

I would have thought the same regarding downshifting. But since I was so worried about snapping this cable I power shifted down also, even into first quite smoothly. Of course I needed the clutch beyond that. I'd approach a red light, hope it would turn green before I had to dead stop and only...

Well thanks for that enlightenment. Before your reply I was considering removing the clutch all together.

    Powershifting 82gs1100gl

With a clutch cable about to snap while on the road the other day I looped back towards home and figured there's no better time than now to learn how to power shift this bike. Once I got the shift rpms down it actually was very smooth shifting. My question is.... Is this damaging at all if done...

    old bike starting trick

My gs1100 won't move in gear with the clutch pulled in when cold. Only if the oil is warm will it free ride in gear with the clutch pulled in. I have to push it in neutral then jump on and throw it in first. Unless I'm on a hill I lose most of the momentum by then and it's not enough to turn...

    1100L Fuel Capacity

I have an 82 gs1100gl. The manual says it holds 4.5 gal incl reserve. I really think it's only 3.5. Eddie V
