A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Final Drive - has anybody taken it appart?

Hi, thanks for nice comments about the bike. Most cycle parts have been powder coated on it (except the bevel box) Here's a photo of the other side. Here's a photo of the rebuild showing the swing arm and bevel box. Swing Arm was powder coated and the bevel box was sprayed by myself.

Final Drive - has anybody taken it appart?

I tried to strip mine down off my GS650 and ruined 2 bearings which are only available from Suzuki (and expensive). I ended up buying a low mileage 2nd hand unit and getting the color matched at a local paint manufacturer. Its not exactly the same as the swing arm but no one notices.

    GS65G cam end covers

Yeah, definitely held on by 2 screws that are accessible after removing the cam cover.

    Colortune Adapter

Well Suzuki must have fitted different cylinder heads on the GS range in the UK as all GS's here have 14mm plugs except the GS650 which has 12mm. Later on they brought out the GSX range with 4 valves per cylinder and these were fitted with 12mm plugs. Unless the GSX range in the UK was called...

    Colortune Adapter

Ahh, didn't realise it was the 1985 GS550 - presumed it was the older 8 valve engine- - I'll bet that you need a 12mm convertor.

    Colortune Adapter

    Coil compatability

I have coils from a GS650 on my GS550. I just had to alter the electrical connections. Anyway they appear to work just the same.

    Colortune Adapter

My GS550 uses the 14mm adaptor, it's the GS650 that takes a different size (12mm)

    Question about replacing suspension bolt

I've just had the suspension bolt on my GS650 replaced. Some numpty had snapped the threads off by overtightening without having enough washers on. I bought a scrap frame for ?10 and a small local welding company removed the snapped one and replaced it with the one off the scrap frame. Cost me...

    What is sea foam?

It sounds like a marvellous product, only problem is that I am in the UK. I cannot find any mention of Seafoam in this country. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent product available over here?

    GS650G vs. GS650M

Luckily for you I have just stripped my GS650 Katana ready for powder coating. Here's a picture of the oil cooler connections, they are part of the sump pan. The connections are the ones under the oil filter cover.

    inlet boot hole pitches

I know that the GS550 uses different size intake boots on later models with CV carbs. Perhaps its the same with the GS750 and you have boots from an earlier/later model.

How to tell it's time for a valve job...

I am fortunate enough to have a genuine suzuki GS shim set and they range from 2.15 to 3.10

    New 550 ignition system fitted!!!!!!!!!

I fitted a Boyer Bransden unit to my GS550 and it's the best thing I ever did. I believe that you may need to readjust the ignition timing. The instructions state to time to the full advance mark at 4500rpm. The full advance mark on the GS550 is the unmarked one (the third line). The F line...

Which is the top of intake boot?

My brothers only had his bike about 2 months and in that time he hasn't taken it apart and it runs beautiful. I would imagine that it would run poorly if the carbs had been fitted incorrectly.
