DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    New tires

90/90-19 is closest to stock on the front. Rear stock is 120/90-16. That rim won't work too well with a 130, You'd really need a 2.50 rim for that. You might have clearance issues in back as well. So....... If getting a matching set is important to you, Avon Roadriders come in sizes very...

    New 83 gs850g

I really like that color scheme. I don't think all that many burgundy/black ones were sold. One normally sees the '83s in the blue scheme. Nice bike. Congratulations on a good score.

    GS1100E oil pan replacement

It never ceases to amaze me how you remember every damn thread pitch on every GS bolt.....

    Disappointing results

Yup. My brother bought a brand new 1982 GS1100E (I still have it) in November of 1987. There were several other GS and KZ motorcycles from 1981-1985 sitting beside it.

Sorry in advance...Does my front need a tube?

I tried that on a couple bikes. It worked on 3 out of 4 rims, but one just absolutely wouldn't seal. So yeah, I think in most cases it works. But not all. All four of those rims have since been countersunk with no issues for five years.

Sorry in advance...Does my front need a tube?

I checked on their website, NAPA still lists them, but says their "out of stock". You could perhaps order them for local pickup. https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NTH90426/NTH90426

Sorry in advance...Does my front need a tube?

Yup. You only buy the counterbore once though. One other thing, make sure you have the correct size stems BEFORE you countersink the wheel. NAPA used to sell good stems for cheap ($4), but has discontinued them. When I learned of this, I bought about twelve of them through their website. You...

    New tires

Tamara, Before you go looking for different sized tires, we need to know the rim widths on your bike. ShadowFocus' 750 has wider rims than your 450. Look for this information on your rims: Let us know what your wheels say and we can recommend the max tire size. My daughter's 450E uses a...

Sorry in advance...Does my front need a tube?

Brian Wringer and I have chamfered the stem hole in many "tubed" cast rims to accept tubeless stems with nary a problem. No issues with slow leaking, no issues with tire seating, no issues with anything. Functionally while riding down the road, one can't tell the difference at all. The only...

    Good kit ?

What I do if one is really stuck in there is to turn the carb upside down on a bench, and squirt penetrating oil (Kroil, Liquid Wrench, or whatever of that ilk turns you on) on the outer lip so it can sink down and get around the o-ring. Over the next day or two, replenish the oil if none is...

    Good kit ?

Most aftermarket carb kits are made in China and the quality is junk. Do not use them. There is no reason to. Go through the carb tutorial. Buy a set of O-rings from Robert Barr. Following the tutorial, dismantle them, clean them per the tutorial, and reassemble using the jets already in...

    Nice KZ700 on ebay

Auction ended with no bids, starting $1,300 asking price. I figured that was starting too high for what shape it's in and the lack of clear pics. I pegged it for a $900 bike as is.

    Disappointing results

The GS1100ES test you're referencing was the first run into the 10s by a staff magazine rider. Gleason was a fill-in tester for the mags when their regular tester wasn't available. The mags wanted to use the same rider every time to get the most consistent results. Long before Ulrich...

    Disappointing results

Charles Everitt was the 1/4 mile tester for Cycle Guide at the time. Jeff Karr was the tester for Motorcyclist. John Ulrich for Cycle World. Mark Homchek for Cycle Magazine. All four of them were also road racers and had launched hundreds of times at the same racetracks for years while...

    1983 GS1100ED - Michelin Pilot Activ - Speed wobble. :(

There are a lot of dynamics at play when a motorcycle is going down the road. The larger the mass and the higher the velocity, the more exaggerated any imbalances or harmonic interactions become. When I first acquired my 1000G (which has been my main ride for six years now), it had pretty...

    1979 cb 650

If there is one bike that could epitomize the UJM phenomenon from 1976-1982, this bike is it. Take the Honda badges off, and that right there is "generabike".

    Nice KZ700 on ebay

As much wear as is on the front fender, tank, exhaust, and tail, I ain't buyin' the 2446 indicated miles. A little elbow grease and some work and it would be a really nice specimen of the breed though.

    Case Bars: Interchangeabilty

There was no 750G, other than the destroked 850G version sold in Japan before Japan allowed bikes greater than 750cc on the road. The poster is just putting the "GS" behind the displacement, not in front of it as is normal.
