A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you wrench on today??

One of those sliding bar jobs was in the package with my drafting machine. Whoever was selling it or packing it didn't understand what they were dealing with. I should figure out if it's complete enough for someone to use and put it back on eBay. I saw some of the elbow type drafting machines on...

what did you wrench on today??

I got a request to see the sheet metal parts I laid out using the drafting machine. The white and brown bent aluminum pieces are what I was working on. The aluminum is from a roll you would get at a lumber yard to bend and wrap around the exterior of doors, windows, fascia boards, etc. It's...

Suzuki AMA racing 2008, traction control

I wonder if these are the same issues that Stoner didn't like about rider aids. IIRC, he said he wanted 300HP with no electronics.

Tip on how to "easily" get your carb rack back into the boots

On the big shafties, you just put it in. If it's difficult, you need new rubber. Like Burkue73, I sit on the bike to install the carbs. Once I get 1 or 4 in, the rest follow more easily. Sometimes I scooch back and push with my feet once I get them aligned. Rocking them up and down helps a lot...

    No compression after rebuild gs750/850

There might some shenanigans with the shims on the #1 valves too. Why are you thinking only about the intake valve?

    Cylinder head pins

The parts list specifies two, and that's what I remember. The holes in the cylinders and head should make it clear where they go, as well as the gasket, as Bob pointed out. They will be on the front corners, as the rear corners are busy being oil passages.

    First plastic welding

I don't know how hot your leather iron got, but when I used a soldering iron back in the day (30 years ago), the plastic got hot enough to release some nasty smelling fumes and was brittle after. That's what your repair looks like to me, but I never added any zip tie. I'm not sure how the Nylon...

    Air filter repair

The filter foam is still available new, just under $30. You'll need to find some foam to go around the top where it mates to the airbox though. For that, closed-cell foam weatherstrip with adhesive backing is the way to go. It's the same stuff you need to replace the rubber in the airbox end caps.

Best Regulator/Rectifier for use with Lithium Battery

Do you mean a lithium iron phosphate battery? What I'm reading is saying they don't need a complex charge controller like lithium ion batteries, but I didn't see anything in my quick search about other special needs they may have.

    Piston Ring Compressors

That's how I did it. Set one pair of pistons to TDC and get them into the cylinders. I thought it was easier when the rods were vertical. Be careful rotating the crank to the next pair, everything will want to fall down when the first pair leave TDC. Maybe suspend the head from the frame with a...

    Unsticking my clutch - advice?

Is the clutch stack visible through the oil filler? I'd probably try a little gently probing through there before trying Rick's method. Not prying on anything, just seeing if things can move with the lever pulled in, to verify the issue.

    Gs1100 luggage rack on a gs1000gl

I once mounted a KG rack from my 850GL on my 1000G. There was a lot of hammering on the rack, and some brackets had to be fabricated from strap steel. Fortunately, It wasn't a nice rack to begin with. But it was quite functional. It's back on the 850 now, after some straightening.

    Airbox chamber blowby gas

I had to get after it pretty aggressively with a coat hanger on both of mine. Put on some good music and grab a seat. I gave it a good soaking inside with paint after it was clear, but that was probably a wasted effort. I didn't do any prep to get rid of the rest of the surface rust, and the...

Unnecessary circlip? One fork rebuilt, one stuck in the tree - help?

18 should not be attached to 23 directly. The screw (10) passes through the slider (3), oil lock (18), the end of the fork leg (23), and threads into the cylinder (20, "damper rod"). To free the tube from the triple clamp, use a stout screwdriver in the clamp's slot to pry the clamp open until...
