A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Carb Gang Plate Screws

Vice-grips Vice-grips Yeah, the secret is to get a really good bite on your first try. If you screw around, you'll really screw up the screw!:D

    Fuel Treatment

Seafoam Seafoam I've tried Seafoam a few times and I really can't tell if it does any good or not. As many people have said, I think the more these old bikes are ridden, the better they run.:) I have 2 Wallace Worlds near my dojo. One of them sells it and one doesn't.

    Carb Gang Plate Screws

Tight Tight Mine were horribly tight on the last couple of set of carbs I bought. Rather than strip them, I used vice grips. If you get a good, hard, solid bite, it really does very little damage to the screw and they'll turn out easily. After that, they'll go in and out with a screwdriver...

Broken Spark Plug in Threads - not a GS

Ughhhhh! Ughhhhh! One thing you may have going for you......it's probably not in there extremely tight so if you could just figure out a way to get a little universal, counter clockwise pressure on it, it might come out fairly easily. Good luck!:)

Finding the correct choke cable for my bike?

Choke Choke Before you buy a new choke cable, I'd suggest you operate the choke slide mechanism, by hand, at the carbs. You may find the problem is there and that a good cleaning will take care of the problem.

    water treatment for valves???

Agua Agua I tried it several years ago. I don't think it hurt anything but I also don't think it did any good. Could have been my technique!!

    Petcock help

Reserve Reserve When you shorten the stand pipe on the Pingel (which must be done when used on the '80 GS750L), you can set up the reserve however you like. I had mine set to go on reserve when I had about 25, or so, miles left in the tank. The directions are in a couple of posts I wrote back...

    Petcock help

Adapter Adapter If you're referring to the Pingel adapter, check out A1902C (which you will also find in the archives). When I bought mine, I think they were about $12 so they're no doubt more expensive now. I'm pretty sure you could make one. (I'm pretty sure I couldn't!)

    Petcock help

Foul petcock Foul petcock A couple of weeks ago, I sold my 750, which was the same year and model that you have. I put a Pingel on it about 8 years ago and it worked absolutely great. As Larry pointed out, they are kind of 'spendy' (about 100 bucks with the adapter, which you would need)...

    oil drain plug question

Clowns Clowns Bill, I'll bet the guys we've got up here could give 'em a 'run for their money'. I wouldn't let them touch my bike!

    Tire size

Me too Me too DITTO! That's what I'm running on the 1100 and I really like them. They seem every bit as good as the GT501's to me.

    missfire till warm

OK... I'll take a couple of minutes to explain it. I've owned my 750 for about 7 1/2 years and my 1100 for a little over 2 years. The carbs on both bikes were in poor shape when I bought them and one was filled with the wrong size jets. I rebuilt both as soon as I bought them. I travel a lot...

    missfire till warm

Tkent....I understand where the "choke feed passage" is in the float bowl but which part is the "choke circuit" in the carb body? Thanks! (I've rebuilt my carbs a bunch of times but have never understood exactly how they work!):o

    Tank coating problem

RedKote RedKote I also used RedKote and I imagine that's what they used. According to the directions, you can get bubbles if you shake it vigorously during the application. I would guess that's exactly what happened. By the way, my tank was coated about 7 years ago; it's really good stuff.:)...

    Smokin' hot engine

Hot!!! Hot!!! As soon as I saw the title of your post, I figured it must involve a GS1100. My GS750 gets hot.... but not hotter than you might expect for a motorcycle. My GS1100 gets really hot.....seemingly more so than any other bike I've ever owned.

    Dumb Battery Keeping Voltage question

Parasitic drain Parasitic drain I think everyone is heading you in the right direction and that your battery is probably perfectly fine...(your old one probably was, too!:(). I had a similar problem and Jim (Posplayr) was kind enough to help me figure it out. It turned out to be the R/R. As...

    gs750l?

16 valve 16 valve Both my bikes are 16 valve, both run perfectly and both are nearly 30 years old. If the 16 valve engine were a POS, I'd have figured it out by now........along with a whole bunch of other people on the forum.:p

    Spark Plug Cap replacement

Question Question That's not a bad question!! You can reinsert them and, usually, without a problem. I'm unsure of exactly where you mean but there's usually a spiral type of attachment that ensures good contact. Put it back together and see what you get. If you're wondering if you're plug...
