A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I thought people in Ohio just tossed everything in the Cuyahoga?

    New project Bike

Nobody, IMO, should try extracting screws without a visit for an hour or so to You Tube to watch & see what others do. Much better than attacking a touchy little mess with no experience.

How fast is is your old GS?

I think I saw test mags get 125-126. Mine has never seen an honest ton.

    82? dark green 1100E

I had the 82 EZ in Champagne, but I believe Suzuki called it some kind of Gold Mist or something.

    Coils wired backwards

Should there not be a reason, then for labeling the pos-neg terminals? Something about large & small windings, or whatever.

    Trailer math

My dealer pulls a trailer everywhere with a lightweight flatbed trailer sporting a car top carrier. He extended the tongue.

    Coils wired backwards

If I recall correctly, the coil doesn't really care about the polarity, but the plugs do. Wiring them backwards requires about 25-30% ? more energy to fire the coils. Not good. This may be an over simplification, but it's the best I can remember.

How fast is is your old GS?

When I was younger and far more stupid I had 9200 RPM on my 82 1100 EZ on a long straight lonely road. I think that was about 142. I will most likely never again see more than about 80, and that would be passing someone.

    Hot Cam in a GS850?

Unless you spend a lot of time wringing it out, torque is far more fun than HP.

    Fuel Stabilzer Video

I run ethanol in all my stuff, but do not let it sit for longer periods. They winter with regular gas. Fuel stabilizers are worthless. You're just as well off to put a pint of kerosene or diesel in it.

    1980 GS850G with 4 into 1 V&H and K&N filter - what main jets?

I had that snorkel on the airbox problem and it indeed caused problems.

    Total loss ignition

My oldest son rode a 650 Yamaha chopper we built with total loss. It was a 73 title so full time lighting was not required. Kick start only. He took day trips on it as much as 60 miles each way with a medium sized battery. It was low when he got home most always.

    Battery time, again

I buy any of them, based on low price. Mighty Max is currently in use on 2 bikes, & I haven't seen a thing to worry me one bit. I do not worry about CCA too much on a 4 banger, either, as they crank over a lot easier than my big twin stuff.

What should I fill my bike with?

Around here, all Casey's have is 87 octane, one ethanol, one ethanol free. Ethanol is supposed to be worth 2 points of octane rating, and my experience says yes.

    Hot Cam in a GS850?

I have no qualms about hopping up any engine if that's what you want. Guys still build 302 Chevies and Fords when the outwardly identical bigger engine drops right in for far less time & money. Shoot, I've got an old 250 inline 6 in my Chevy truck we are getting parts gathered up for.....just...

    Why paint a PT Cruise..?

I saw a PT Cruiser the other day with a paint job that would turn the wick up on a 60's hippy. The turbo PTs were pretty fast. A Neon under the skin, I guess.

The 1100GL has really impressed me.

My GS850 there is nothing noticeable. 77 Goldwing nothing I notice. 1982 Virago nothing I notice. 84 Moto Guzzi, same story. The only bike I've ever noticed it on was a Big Yamaha triple, and it wasn't bad. People must be really sensitive.

Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

I'm still not understanding how the .15 mm clearance caused any running issues. Too tight, yes, a little loose, no.
