I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Katana 1100 meets CB 77

I thought you might appreciate a picture of my smallest capacity bike side by side with my largest. The Honda is a 305 cc CB 77, the bike Robert Pirsig rode before writing his famous book: "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance". I had one these in my twenties and was fortunate enough to buy...

1100 Katana with GS 1150 bottom end smoking oil

Good advice! Is it something I have to add to the engine oil?

1100 Katana with GS 1150 bottom end smoking oil

After almost 8 years with little to no riding, I started riding my 1100 Kat again. The bike runs perfectly with a very good idle but blue smoke comes out of one of the exhausts when accelerating hard... I suppose that at least one the cylinders and piston rings might be worn? I suspect the bike...

    Offset alternator conversion for racing

I took a picture of the alternator mounted on a genuine XR 69 here: https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?179221-Genuine-XR-69/page2 I hope you'll see it as it was posted on photobucket...

35, 40 and 45 mm offset triples to fit GS 1000's with 43 mm cartridge forks

I pulled the stem out of the lower Vstrom triple and I'm almost sure it can't be reused as the bearing landings are further apart than on the GS 1000. Furthermore, there is not enough matter left below the top landing to move it downwards... On top of that I don't see how I could use a GS 1000...

35, 40 and 45 mm offset triples to fit GS 1000's with 43 mm cartridge forks

I took a closer look at the Vstrom triples and the stem on the lower triple is definitely too long to go on a GS 1000. While it is possible to shorten it, I'm not sure there would be adequate support left for the top bearing? In any case the inner diameter of both bearings is 30 mm. The best...

35, 40 and 45 mm offset triples to fit GS 1000's with 43 mm cartridge forks

It's quite easy in fact to get the GS 1000 wheels in a GSXR / Bandit RSU fork. Here's how it's done: https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?206668-A-modern-fork-upgrade-for-17-18-and-19-quot-wheels/page4 I don't recommend the GSXR 11K forks in a GS 1000 as they are the shortest at...

35, 40 and 45 mm offset triples to fit GS 1000's with 43 mm cartridge forks

You are right but dropping the front end decreases the rake and thus the trail. One can typically gain 1? of rake by lifting the rear by 1/2 inch and lowering the front by the same amount. Anyway here are a few measurements I took: GS 1000: 775 mm GS 1100 Kat: 800 mm GSXR 1100 K: 740 mm Bandit...

35, 40 and 45 mm offset triples to fit GS 1000's with 43 mm cartridge forks

I've upgraded a couple of my bikes to 43 mm cartridge forks sourced from a 1200 Bandit for my 1100 Kat, from a GSXR 1100 K for my XR 41 replica and from an R6 for my "Mocca Racer" replica. The triples came from GSXR 1100 K's for the first two while I went for an R6 triple on the latter. The...

    1100g d port head on 1000

I did this modification and I don't know if the power increased due to the extra capacity alone or not but you need to know that if you also go with the 1100 G cylinder block you will have to mill it quite a bit to get the pistons to be flush with the deck! This is due to the fact that stroke on...

More modern cartridge fork options - retaining GS wheels & proper/revised geometry

Has anyone so far tried the Vstrom 1000 triples? What's the spacing between the fork tubes ( center to center)? Ideally it should be 205 mm to take eitheir a complete GSXR 11K or R6 front end. Well, I got the info today...it's 205 mm!!! This means that thanks to the research done through this...

Seized primary gear on clutch hub (GS 1000 ST)?

The parts fiche doesn't exist on line but I have the french equivalent to the Haynes manual and it can be seen there. I also have the microfiche but without a reader... BTW on what side must I grind off the rivets to separate the hub from the primary gear? Also will the kit from APE...

Seized primary gear on clutch hub (GS 1000 ST)?

Hi Richard, Interestingly enough I had watched your video before posting my issue! I fully agree with you about the tiny rubber grommet that is there to absorb the vibration coming from the lateral move of the hub as the power is winded up or down. On my spare hub the primary gear can move ever...

Seized primary gear on clutch hub (GS 1000 ST)?

Some unusual noise was coming out of the RH side of my GS 1000 ST. At first, I thought it might be coming from the clutch hub nut coming loose but when I opened the right crankcase cover everything was OK? I pulled the clutch out and discovered that the primary gear on the clutch hub did not...

Strange failure on my 1100 Katana starter motor

I thought about that Pete but the magnets were quite damaged and given the torque needed to start the 1100 Kat I wanted to make sure it would work on the long run!

Strange failure on my 1100 Katana starter motor

My 1100 Kat was getting more and more difficult to start despite a healthy battery. I finally opened the starter motor to discover that 3 of the 4 magnets inside the stator were loose! Of course, you can't buy the stator alone so I decided to buy a complete new unit from Rick's motorsport...
