All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    79 850G, sounds like popcorn

Running lean, maybe? Might try coming a 1/2 turn or so out on the mixture, see if that helps.

    GS1100GL Project

You mentioned in one of your first posts that you were planning on doing some 2-up riding...how do you plan on building the passenger seat, or have you given up on that idea?

    GS1100GL Project

WOW...I had given up on the idea of doing a 'chopper' style GS, but seeing what you've done here...well, I'm definitely reconsidering now!

    Valve Shim Size Questions...

Checked the clearances on my valves this past weekend, and it turns out that 7 out of 8 of my valves have 'negative' clearance...could not spin the tappet at all on the back side of the lobe. My measurements were: I1 - 2.70 - <0 I2 - 2.65 - <0 I3 - ?? No Number - <0 I4 - 2.60x - <0 E1 -...

    Gs550 rpm

Speed vs. RPM is going to be set mechanically. Disregarding clutch and tire slippage (which should be inconsequential), your engine is going to turn at the same rpm at a given speed regardless of engine performance...it just may use more or less fuel to reach that speed/rpm, or in the case of a...

We have the technology, we can rebuild it. Gauge update Pt.1

Thanks! That definitely cleared up my misunderstanding...I hadn't realized the significance the connectors played in initiating the chain-reaction.

We have the technology, we can rebuild it. Gauge update Pt.1

This could be a stupid question, and if it is, please correct me... It was my understanding that, at it's most basic level, the charging / stator issue was caused by an inability to bleed off excess electrical load. Wouldn't removing load from the charging system actually exacerbate the...

    Stumbled across this by luck...

I was on Google just looking for GS pictures, and stumbled across this site...two hours later, and I'm still reading it. This guy has an amazing story, very inspiring. Be sure to read the 'soil samples' section. http://mysite.verizon.net/res0ohwj/index.html

    1981 750L Carb Interchange, other ?'s

This may be a stupid question, but I've done a search and can't find a clear, convincing answer. First, some background... I'm rebuilding an '81 750L after it sat for 18+ years. This is my very first bike build of any kind, so I'm learning as I go. That being said, I welcome critique /...

    Figured why gs750 not starting

The theory is that the current position is not the correct position. My guess is that, with everything aligned as close as possible in your current position, your exhaust cam is advanced 1 tooth. Exactly. Use the chain slack to lift the chain off of the exhaust cam, turn the cam 'back' one...

    Figured why gs750 not starting

Forgot to mention...if you're 'testing' to see if it's one cam or the other, be sure to rotate the engine by hand one complete cycle before trying with the starter. As you do so, feel for resistance to make sure you don't end up bending valves that aren't already, just in case you've adjusted...

    Figured why gs750 not starting

From what I can tell, based on what others have posted (I don't have a manual myself), you're a tooth off. Loosen the tensioner, raise the chain just off either the intake or exhaust cam, and either rotate your exhaust cam counter-clockwise (as it shows in the pic), or your intake cam clockwise...
