A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New RR installed w/Triumph leads Question?

Is that a STOCK orange wire, or has it been added? If it's STOCK, that is the switched wire that comes back from the ignition key to feed the fuse box. If it's been added, all bets (and guesses) are off until you find what's on the other end of the wire. First test is to see if it comes live...

    Seb from France

No, with everything working, it's 50%. ON, off, ON, off, ON, off, etc. That's half the time, that's 50%. :-\\\ .

Look at the bright side. :-k Even when working PERFECTLY, turn signals only work 50% of the time. .

    gs550l choke

Just two suggestions here. 1. What year is your bike? Over the years, there were THREE different types of carbs on a 550L, it would be nice to know which ones are being discussed. 2. Punctuation, spelling and grammar are your friends. Your post is a bit hard to read, but I got most of it. .

Carb rebuild only 2 cylinders fire

You "disassembled, dipped, and reassembled" the carbs. :-k How fully did you disassemble? How long did you "dip"? What are your settings for the pilot screws? .

    1979 GS850 Brake Calipers

Please do not discount the idea that somebody might have already had the calipers apart. :-k The idea there is that it might have been re-assembled incorrrectly. It's a shocking idea, but not everybody is as good as we are. :-\\\ .

    1979 GS850 Brake Calipers

Actually the changes started with the 1980 model. :-k The 1979 model was the only 850 with those calipers. It was the only year with the VM carbs. It was the only year with a kick starter. It was the only year without a crossover in the exhaust. It was the only year with a 12-pole stator. It...

    Prepping for paint...

It's one thing to revive a "dead" thread with some new insight, but answering a question that was posted 20 years ago is just a bit strange. :-\\\ .

    Impossible to identify

Yep, that is, indeed, a 2-valve 450L from at least '83 and up. :encouragement: I do like the color scheme. We were not blessed with that one. .

    Cavalcade brakes

Did you remove the o-rings to clean the grooves they sit in? Just a little bit of crud in the groove will make the o-ring grip a bit harder on the piston. Also make sure to lube the o-ring with brake fluid and ONLY brake fluid. .

Although that is true in the North American market, it's not necessarily true for the rest of the world. :-k .

    Impossible to identify

Are you sure you have an "L"? :-k According to THIS PAGE, you might have an '83, but there are extra letters mixed in, like GL51_LD. Other clues are the "D", which indicates a 1983 model year. The black engine actually started in '83, not '85. Features of the "L" model include (but are not...

    LED headlight

Nope, TruckLite user here. :encouragement: I read through that article. :-k Who are the jokers that wrote that? I can guarantee that whoever did the "research" for the article did not know what they were doing. First off, the lights were an "apples and oranges" comparison. Two 7" LED lights...

    Stock airbox brass rings?

They are meant to expand inside the boots to hold them to the airbox. While in use, they will not touch the carbs. .

Looking for Shinko 712, or 777 for 82 1100E seem to be out of stock everywhere.

I agree with the 100 on the front. The 110 is harder to turn, makes it feel like somebody turned off the power steering. .

How to remove the airbox of a GSX 400 ?

First of all, WELCOME. No excuses necessary. Your English is much better than my French, and probably most others here, too. :encouragement: What year is your 400? Most of us have not seen a GSX400, as it was not brought to the US. However, if it is somewhat similar to the 2-valve...

    TDC Question

The factory manual is written for factory-trained technicians, therefore it assumes that you got a bunch of those inside tips in your training. The Clymer (and Haynes) manual is pretty much written for the rest of us. For specs, I generally trust OEM over the others, but I have seen errors is...

    TDC Question

Correct. The Clymer service manual shows a couple blocks of wood that help holding the pistons up while you slide the cylinders down. It’s basically a 1x4 that is narrowed to fit between the studs and has a long slot down the middle that is wide enough to slide past the rod. It looks like a...

    Secret spot for speakers

Surprisingly, they do quite well. Although they are not all that thick (about the same as a quality t-shirt), they absorb enough to keep the crud out of the helmet. Even on a multi-day tour, it's easy enough to "do the laundry" in the motel sink in the evening and have it dry by morning. It...
