I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Electrical failure, help !

Pulled into a gas station last night, turned off ignition & topped up the tank. When I turned the key, no ignition light. Tried a couple of times, dead. Got off, got out tool kit, tried again & hey presto, ignition light. Fired her up & went home. This morning, turned key, no ignition light...

    crusing problem??? very fishy

I had a similar problem with a CX500 a few years back. Drove me nuts, bike would run fine but every so often for no reason lost power in one pot. I put up with it for a while, till it did it one day while I was overtaking a car, traffic coming the other way but plenty of room, unless the bike...

    brighten up your tail light

Hey, if tin foil works, its a darn sight cheaper than forking out for brighter bulbs.

    Honda RR mounting

I just fitted a Honda reg/rec to my GS750. Like you, I found the Honda unit a bit big to fit comfortably in the standard place, clashed with the solenoid and flasher relay. I fitted it on the opposite side, bolted to the battery holder just in front of the rear brake master cylinder. There is no...

    Charging question

Thanks everyone. I`m going to check out all the connections, but I do feel better for seeing it in black and white that up to 15.5v is ok. Most of my manuals electrical section is missing, thanks to my dog Max. Guess he hates electrics more than me !.

This is the stuff that keeps me up at night....

If you want to save a few bucks, you can pick up Honda Regulator/rectifiers at breakers or auto jumbles. I`ve got a couple that only cost me about $5.00 each. I know second hand electrical bits can be a risk, but the R/R is easy enough to check out with a multimeter. I`ve just done the...

    Charging question

Sorry to bring up charging system queries again, I know they`ve been covered loads of times and we have the stator papers to refer to, but I am a bit confused. My GS750 has been blowing bulbs and losing battery fluid quite a bit recently, so I`ve replaced the regulator/rectifier with a Honda...

taking the carbs off the bike

Like Hampshirehog says, bit of a fiddle but easy enough to remove them. Just a couple of little points to watch. Which model is the bike ?. Seem to recall on the 550 you have to remove the carbs first as the frame tubes prevent airbox removal first. I`m sure someone will correct me if I`m wrong...

    GS750 Running problem

My 79 GS750 was running fine everyday to work and back, until last week when cruising at 60mph, it started to stutter and lose power. At about 30mph it seemed ok. Have noticed the battery is on its last legs, in fact that day I had to kickstart it. The battery is a couple of years old, but I...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Roland, give the vent tube trick a try, if it works it sure saves a lot of messing about, especially if the bike runs well once its going. I`m a great believer that if it ain`t broke don`t fix it. Could be that a strip down and clean up, adjustments etc will improve things, but could also mess...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Nothing to do with being afraid of carbs, mine have been off, stripped and cleaned many times over the years, even re-built with a carb kit once. No difference, leave em a couple of days and both my GS`s and CX500 won`t start unless I use this trick. The GS`s are both 750`s by the way. Don`t...

    kickstart???

Its possible the crankcases on your bike still have the millings for the kickstarter mechanism. I know the 82 550`s did, as I got one for a chop project and wanted to fit a kicker. I was able to get the mechanism and a clutch side cover from a breaker. I guess when Suzuki decided to stop putting...

    brake troubles

The copper washers should be fitted at all connections between the lines and the calipers, splitter and resevoir. At the ends of the lines, the metal connectors through which the bolt goes should have a copper washer each side. Its always best to replace them when working on brakes, you can get...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Great, glad it worked !. I don`t claim it solves every starting problem but its always worth a try before pulling carbs or messing with electrics !. Both my GS750`s and my CX500 were pigs to start if stood a couple of days, but a quick blow down those breathers and away they go.

    Sequoia National Forest

Enjoyed looking at those piccies, brought back a few memories from a few years ago when me and my brother spent a few weeks in California. We flew in to LA, then visited friends in San Bernadino before driving up to Bridgeport. From there we crossed Tioga Pass into Yosemite, then sown to Fresno...

    Pitted front forks

Sorry, did`nt occur to me you might not know Araldite. Its just a two part epoxy resin, you probably can get it over there but maybe under a different name. I don`t know of JB Weld, but sounds similar. Is it one of these two part epoxy resins that the manufacturers tell us sets as strong as...

    Pitted front forks

An old ratbike trick for pitted forks is to smooth off any raggd edges as mentioned before, then fill the pits with araldite, then once its dried, use very fine wet & dry paper wrapped around a sanding block to smooth it off. Use the paper wet. I`ve used this trick and it does work well.

    Newbie: 1978 GS750E Starting Issues

Both my GS750`s and my CX500 are pigs to start unless I use this old trick. Pull on the choke, then blow a couple of times into each of the two carb breather tubes. Chances are if the problem is`nt electrical, the bike will fire up. I guess it pushes a bit of extra gas into the jets. Sounds...

Long distance trip - bike preparation

Rphillips might think packing spare levers is getting silly, I don`t !. Sure, you can get away without the clutch ok if you are on an open road, not much fun if you are in traffic or a built up area, believe me I`ve done it. Ok if you have time or can get it into neutral, but if you need to stop...

Long distance trip - bike preparation

You`ve probably thought of this, but I`ll drop my two pennies worth in as well. As well as the spare cables, a spare clutch and brake lever are worth having, just in case. Spare light bulbs too, and a tubeless tyre repair kit can be well worth the little space they take up. I`d also take a...
