A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Comparing a GS650 to GS850, 750, 550 etc…

L's also come with 1 front brake and a leading axle fork (sometimes because I have seen L's with twin brakes and standard forks too), frames are different and owning many bikes in both in L and G or E variants the G and E variants seem more stout for handling than the L's. Sometimes I think...

    Comparing a GS650 to GS850, 750, 550 etc…

If your finding your self on secondary roads (dirt with low maintenance) I would recommend the 650 if your bent on shaft drive. They are surprisingly spry especially in conditions south of 60MPH. I have recently acquired a GS1000G and it's an absolutely stellar road bike but I would be...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

I'll post pics when I get in there. I'll check the contact plates and fibers for wear or glazing. I don't want to button it back up twice. 10 dollars. For the price it's nice to just have that in inventory! Thanks,

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

It's a brand new cable; yes it has mid point adjustment and have used that with case adjustment and now can fine tune with the handlebar adjustment to get where the bike is now. Friction point is just off the bar (lever fully pulled) just where I like it (set the same on all my other machines)...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

I would not doubt they are original. The spring fatigue after 42 years is likely the culprit.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

All good! 6 cylinder bikes are fun in their own right! I did 150 mile ride on the GL1500 this past Sunday. It was nice. The weather has been WARM! 65' right now. Heading out for some Doctors appointments and will be taking the GS. Congrats on the bike Norm! Making your way to Vermont one of...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

100 mile ride on the GS1000G I traded for the 550E. Definitely worth the trade even though I am trying to troubleshoot out a clutch issue (sip) in the higher gear when delivering the 100 ponies. A total cream puff of a motorcycle, I've never owned a big block shafty and will say, Suzuki Nailed...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

Update So went for a 100 mile ride after playing with the perch on the cover. Clutch play and pull is fixed and the pull is smooth and precise but noticing the issue still although I can tell you exactly what is happening. I am getting slip consistently in the upper gears with snap to WOT in...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

I'll give this a look and go when the sun comes up. The oil is also a good theory. I wasn't to confident in the mechanical prowless of the PO. He told me he restored the bike but when I looked at it and then rode it (with a non working electrical system and no front brakes) I knew I had a...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

I had slip bad on my first GS750 and a few others I've owned but the lowe end crawl was never a symptom. Warped discs though make perfect sense. These isses always seem to become apparent after you get the bike to good running condition. Might be similar situation here as the bike is now dialed...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

Greetings. I just replaced the cable on my 1980 GS1000G because the PO put drag bars on and routed the cable oddly and caused some pinching issues (at least I thought) I would often either have too much pull causing the clutch to slip or not enough pull and the bike would try to crawl in gear. ...

Getting more interested in 2-up riding

HAHAHA No kidding! That is great! I think you'll enjoy it. The weight is something to get used to but once you do it's no big deal. I rode through the madness of Burlington with it the other day and back home (150ish miles) so City and highway. I have to say it's a dang good motorcycle. It...

Getting more interested in 2-up riding

I received a free Honda GL1500/6 1988 that was sitting for the better part of 15 years. Just did the routine maintenance on it; fluids, filters, plugs, belts, water pump, tires and battery. Did replace the brake and cutch lines and both front and clutch hydraulic masters. I did tear it apart to...
