A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rivet chain link vs. clip on chain link.

I've had clips come off during a ride, side plate went missing once. Made it home that day purely because the rest of the link happened to stay in the two ends of the chain. I've never had any issues of any kind with riveted master links. Tool is easy to use and cheap compared to the potential...

New old Superbike racing!!! SO COOL!!!

Pah, must be rigged - the kat was 3rd.... LOL I think this kind of racing is scheduled every other weekend at the local 1/4 mile oval Meridian raceway... NOT!! Seriously, great find Trevor. Spooky the first guy mentioned in the "roll of honour" was Wes Cooley eh? Enjoyed that...

    Trailers

I have a 5x8 aluminium open utility trailer with wooden floor and ramp at the back. I have 4 tie down points, two at the front, two at the back but I use those in combination with a wheel chock. Steve is correct, you need to be careful when loading a bike over the pivot point of the rear ramp...

Charlie made it back to Boise Friday night around 8:15 but he didn't want to go for a ride then Saturday we went North on 55 through Cascade where we made a stop at the lake Made it to McCall for lunch then back down 95 through Council. Hope the scenery was better than the dry, dead...

    Which Garmin?

Likely you already know some of this stuff but here's what I've learnt along the way with the 55LM I use for exactly the same purpose.... The contrast of the newer displays is pathetic. Not sure if that's due to the poor choice of color schemes available or the technology of the display itself...

    Charlie's trippin

Plan to stay for a day if you make it back into Boise Charlie. We'll do some of the canyons. Good job we never went that way when you left, found out later that day both 21 and 17 were closed because of a wildfire  would have been a very long way round to miss that!

    Charlie's trippin

So we rode out to Vale Or to meet Charlie and ride the last 80ish miles into Boise with him. He's taking a shower after "sampling" my Grant's whiskey. Apparently is "palatable" evidenced by the bottle being empty! You're welcome here anytime Charlie.

GS650G Katana rebuild - firing on 3 cylinders - driving me crazy!!!!!

Take this as intended, a data point and possible option, but here's a post on my experiences from years ago... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?218056-1-pipe-cold&p=1997369#post1997369 I wrote up a post with more details and pictures I thought but can't find that now. I...

    1982 GS550M Katana Rebuild

Going great Mike, nice job. One thing I will mention, it's a real pain in the arse to get the carbs fitted on these bikes. Not sure if you got new boots etc. or not, if so that will help but I found the airbox and plenum needed to be moved back as far as possible to get enough room to fit the...

    1980 gsx250 project

You can post more than one picture but not by importing the picture directly you have to use a hosting site like photobucket or imageshack then link to them. Info on how to do that if you're interested can be found at: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/ on the left side of the page...

    1980 gsx250 project

250cc was the biggest bike you were allowed when I passed my test at 17 so there was no option to ride a bigger capacity machine. I bought a brand new GS250TT and likewise, I went everywhere on that. Eventually sold it to buy my first car... groan :( Found another one over here a while back in...

    1982 GS550M Katana Rebuild

Just FYI, I bought a brand new tank from England for mine. That's the tank on it now but to my dismay I found the tank did not have the hole for the fuel level sensor. I concluded at least UK bikes were not fitted with them from the the factory but that's based on nothing more than my...

    1982 GS550M Katana Rebuild

Welcome to the nut house Mike. I did a restoration on a baby Kat a few years ago, got mine after it had stood in the Seattle rain for 15 years! Somehow, I kinda doubt yours is any worse and I can tell you she'll come around and turn out nice in the end... Keep your eye on ebay, parts...

    Oring grease

I've always used 3 in 1 silicone spray lubricant. This stuff I think (without being able to look): http://www.amazon.com/3-IN-ONE-10041-Professional-Silicone-Lubricant/dp/B000BBYCUC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 not sure why it's unavailable, sure I got some at WallyWorld.
