A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Does anyone have these saddlebags?

I had exactly the same questions when I was looking a few weeks back. I went for the Nelson-Rigg bags that look identical to those you're looking at but I think I went with the 905's purely because they were on sale at the time. I don't have any pictures here at work but I have five GS's and I...

Chasing threads with a greased tap

Put a timesert in one side of my 250 using the grease method. Works a treat so long as you use plenty of grease and, as already mentioned, remove the tap regularly to clean off the grease and apply fresh. 250 fired right up afterward and has been running great ever since. Good luck.

Anyone seen a nut like this before?

HA! I win... HA! I win... It's off :) Took a ton of hammering with my impact gun but it let go in the end. Thanks for the confirmation the nut was nothing special. Had visions of going too hard and nadging up the output shaft or something else equally undesirable. Onward with the...

Anyone seen a nut like this before?

In the middle of doing a 530 conversion on my '82 1000 kat and got stuck at trying to undo the nut on the front sprocket. I've tried my impact wrench and applying a 4ft wrecking bar to the 32mm socket at which point I started to lift the machine from it's stand and it still didn't let go...

Anyone using a new fancy battery???

I've just switched to my first AGM battery from batteries plus, I got the uprated version that has higher cold cranking current and a two year replacement guarantee. Cost me $96 so I reckon that's break even with wet cells if it only lasts two years but obviously expecting more than that...

    Turning motor over by hand

I'd always worked on the assumption that counter clockwise was a bad thing to do BUT I recently did a cam chain tensioner rebuild on a '82 550 and the manual described a functional test for the tensioner that called for turning the motor counter clockwise. Seems it does little harm in small...
