A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Cooley with 2 original miles

Might have been in America but not the rest of the world. Just as I've been saying all along... Though to be fair, we called them ice cream vans over here, not Cooleys.

    Gs1100e oil pressure switch

You're testing it wrongly. Pop it in the engine and you should have continuity with the engine cover when it's not running and that should disappear when you start up.

    Gs1100e oil pressure switch

Your understanding is correct and it would seem that your switch is u/s. They're still available new, though with a black plastic nut rather than white, and not expensive.

    Gs 850 to 650 carb flanges 1982

No idea what they're like but these might be worth a punt: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manifold-Motorcycle-Carburetor-Interface-1981-1982/dp/B088H5375M/ref=sr_1_116?dchild=1&keywords=suzuki+carburetor+manifold&qid=1592422131&sr=8-116

Me, Myself and my 81 550

Doesn't matter unless you're thinking of entering concours shows. Only thing you'll have to be sure about when ordering parts is to know what year part you want and there aren't that many on your bike that are year critical.

Me, Myself and my 81 550

The only 550s to get slotted discs were the Katanas. Plug and play though, across the range.

Me, Myself and my 81 550

Those clocks are from the 79 model. You might have a 79 that sat around in a dealership for a while and didn't get registered until 1981. Not that it matters as loads of parts are interchangeable. The frame number will confirm year of manufacture and it'll give you a clue if you cross reference...

GS650G Katana - colour of engine covers (clutch, pickups, alternator)

The whole of the engine should be painted silver on these. Simoniz VHT silver is a close match but they do 2 different types, one for circa 500 degrees and another for circa 1200 if I remember correctly. I can't remember which is the best match though!

Me, Myself and my 81 550

Smoke on start up is almost certainly due to hardened valve stem oil seals. They should have replaced them when they replaced the cam chain (wonder if they actually did that - I've never replaced a cam chain on a 550 as they last forever). Rattling sounds like blowing exhaust gaskets, though...

    81 GS550 Shocks

I'd rank YSS and Hagon shocks about the same. You can pick up Hagons for around ?150 and YSS a little cheaper.

    GS750 tidy up !

To claim historic status for your bike just print the form off the interweb, fill it in and take to your post office with your V5. They'll give you a receipt and your bike is classified as historic from that point immediately.

Are the mirrors different on right and left side?

It depends on whether or not you can swivel the mirror round on the stem. Original Suzuki mirrors were left and right handed.

    GS 750 Oil pump

Try disconnecting the wire from the pressure switch - it could be chafed and shorting out somewhere. Very unusual for your bike to suffer from low oil pressure.

    Pilot Needle jets......

You could carefully cut off the damaged top of your screw and cut a new slot for the screwdriver.

    Source for new seat pan?

The 1000 one looks like it's got the underseat trim as well - that part alone is getting to be unobtanium over here.
