A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Thoughts on my rear piston?

I get mine from Nick Chambers over here. Top man. With the ? pretty low against the $ at the moment they should be a good buy for you chaps. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-gn-gsx-250-700-850-caliper-pistons-Booted-type-see-listing-/262590559958?hash=item3d239df6d6:g:MVoAAOSwj0NUjfQL

    Thoughts on my rear piston?

I'd play safe and chuck it. But I'd replace with stainless steel pattern pistons - cheaper and better than original.

    Ultrasonic Cleaning Process?

Mine come out really shiny, perhaps with a slight 'rainbow shine' on the carb bodies if you catch the sun on them. Maybe it's a combination of temperature and cleaner mix. What are you putting in your cleaner Adrian? Oh, and happy birthday for tomorrow.

    Ultrasonic Cleaning Process?

In my cheap Chinese jobby, 70 degrees and water with a splash of household detergent. Half an hour then rinse and repeat.

    Engine stutter at full throttle

Has the bike still got the original air box with filter or is it running with pods?

    Carb leak

A few things spring to mind: Are the valve needles in good nick? If you can see a ring (use a magnifying glass) they might not be. A decent test (though not infallible) is to turn the carb upside down and try an blow though the closed valve. Could be a hair or something tiny also blocking the...

rings and valve lapping, still low compression???

Sounds like you're still running in. Those numbers are ok - and they're pretty even. Plus are you sure your compression tester reads accurately. Mine reads low consistently.

    vm29 gs850

I thought the standard set up on VM29s was the non cable type. Are you sure you've got 29s and not 28s (or 26s)?

    Random hose on carbs?

Take the hose of one nipple and get another hose the same length and fit to the other nipple; they're vent lines and the ends should just dangle over the back of the airbox in the fresh air.

CV or VM what's the difference?

VM is the designation given to a complete range of carbs of similar design fitted to many, many different bikes produced by many different manufacturers. It's possibly the most widely used carb in the last 40 or so years.

CV or VM what's the difference?

It doesn't stand for anything. It's just the series designation.

    Contemplating buying a GS1100E

No, but there is a colour match and somebody on this site knows what it is (there was a thread on it not long ago).

CV or VM what's the difference?

You'll have a slow run knob on those carbs as well. Stating the obvious but just in case.

    LED brake lights?

From an electrics point of view that looks like plug and play.

I think I'm trying to clean the rust out of my tank incorrectly. Please help.

The way I do it is to stick a hose pipe in the tank filler, turn on the water and pull off whatever I've been blocking the fuel outlet with. Flush through with water for a good few minutes until all the vinegar has gone then pull the hose out and start spraying WD40 in through the filler cap...

    Can someone identify these shocks?

Cavalcades had the air valve on the top I believe. I'm with Steve, they look like GS1100G shocks to me.

Can you get fuel mixture screws you can adjust by hand?

Whilst you're right Chuck, an awful lot of riding is done on the pilot circuit (unless you're 19 years old or thinking you are - like me sometimes :o....). So pilot circuit set up is important, not just for idle. You know that I'm sure but it didn't come across in your post the way I read it...

    Engine swap

The 750G was a Japan home market thing. Same as an 850 just missing a few cc and to do with licence restrictions I believe.
