    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Hello Greg, Well, if I was starting completely new project from a bare frame then I would consider mono shocking it. But in this case it would be too much work. Stripping the whole bike to the frame, modifying the frame and getting it painted again, re-locating plenty of components to make room...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

When I removed the original arm ends I found out that arm tubes had additional wall in the middle. So the extension blocks needed some modification. Then plugging in the extensions, careful measuring to ensure that everything lines up correctly, some tack welds, measuring, adjusting, more...

Time for an update. A longer swing arm was priority number one for this winter. I considered building the whole swinger by myself from chromo tube but then Blover offered me a suitable looking gixxer arm with drawings of extension blocks. So I thought it would be easier route. The pivot tube...

    Blow off valve??

Those cheap blow off valves are basically just gambling. I know that some of them are completely junk, meaning not even functional without major rework. On the other hand some of them work as well as expensive ones. For example I have one like this...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Hi Greg, Yes, the oil was up to proper temperature, maybe some 190-200?F. But then something else. Requested on-board video material ;) I thought to push my luck a bit further for this season so I attended to a track day event for some roundy-roundy riding. Not so surprisingly I found out the...

I think that if you are going to build a board for your own use you don't need permissions from anybody. And I guess that even if you would like to make a MS compatible board and sell it MS developers couldn't do much for it, unless your board is a direct copy of their board. But if you try to...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Yes, the MS3 looks quite interesting but I think it's still in quite early development phase though it apparently already works. So if you just want working engine management I would still stay away of the MS3 for a while. A friend of mine just bought a MS3 for his drag bike project, interesting...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Hi Greg, Yes, some gear dependent boost or ignition timing control would be handy. So probably I will do that a bit later when I have time for such finer details. Interesting to hear that I'm not the first one to break those pump gear drive lugs. Yes, I ground the lugs slightly narrower. The...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Thanks! :D Yes, I really had luck with the oil pump. Fortunately these engines aren't too sensitive for short lubrication breaks. I'm still a bit worried about the cams since they are probably the first ones to suffer. But I will see that later when I adjust the valves next time. The front...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

I had a quite interesting dyno session last Wednesday, with some ups and lows. I needed some dyno pulls to verify if the head gasket leak is really gone after re-torque and I also wanted to get a "second opinion" for power figures. So I booked time for a dyno shop located some 100 miles away...

Yes, that's what half of the people is saying. And another half keeps telling that it will leak sooner or later no matter what you do :) Ok, seriously, I believe it's possible to get a copper gasket leak free. I have heard that hint about Gasgacinch from several sources and apparently VHT...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Yes, if the gasket doesn't hold now I have to consider o-rings and copper gasket. I have just heard so many stories how difficult it is to get a copper gasket oil tight ;) So let's see how it will do. At least I haven't noticed any signs of leaking after re-torque. But I guess that I have to...

The base gasket is steel. One possibility is copper washers under the nuts.

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Hello Greg. Yes, I checked that the wastegate opens completely. I discussed about this with guy that sold the turbo for me. He has installed several of these turbos on bike engines and according him it's typical that boost creeps up. Now I opened up the wastegate hole as far as the flapper...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Any ways, I got the boost control working well enough for some dyno testing. At first I tried to find knock limit for ignition timing by listening the engine with "electronic stethoscope". But I wasn't able to notice any knocking even though I disabled water injection and increased ignition...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Tuning starts to be in decent state and the bike has been in regular use without major hiccups. Though I have been fighting with surprisingly high amount of small random problems like oil leaks, fuel leaks, charging problems and so on. Fortunately all of these have been easy to fix. Typical...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Just for clarification, I didn't add any extra restriction for the turbo. The idea was to increase pressure for the turbo from stock 5-10 psi to about 30-60 psi. Just to guarantee sufficient oil flow through the turbo. There is a very small restrictor hole in the turbo centre housing, about...

I also upgraded the processor of the ECU to MS2-version. It took few hours to go through all the new settings and determining some sensible starting values for them. By this far I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Not a huge leap from the MS1 but almost everything is improved more or less...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Update time! After getting the engine in the frame there was plenty of bolting on accessory bits, routing hoses, connecting wires and so on. Generally huge amount of small things that take plenty of time in the end. One funny surprise was that new engine sits in slightly different position in...

    GS(X)1100E turbo EFI

Hi William. The bike has been turbocharged with the original engine for three active riding seasons. Hopefully I will get this new engine in use within next few weeks. As far as I know water cooled turbos are developed mainly to prevent heat soak after engine shut down. This is a problem in...
