A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Stater and Reg/Rect problems on 82 GS650Ez

assuming the crash bar fails to do so,it IS a case saver. Replaceable. ...but I haven't tried sliding the bike on it yet. Funny Nobody has asked if it cools the the stator at all. I find that very interesting...

    Stater and Reg/Rect problems on 82 GS650Ez

I absolutely agree that if you are happy with your replacement that's great. Shindegnen makes good stuff. But it's stuff like this that makes me unhappy. In the event your stator is hotter it'd depend on the varnish of the windings breaking down. It should not. Winding wire and it's coating is...

Indeed an edifying pair of videos.....forewarned is Four-Armed! Thanks for taking the trouble!

replacement valves stems for '83 GS650L

Nice they include a metal valve cap :) I've never used goo in my tires. ...Is it trouble to clean from rims when you replace a worn out tire? that makes me wonder. My Roadriders were fine on the front 19" rim but the 17" rear was trouble.need say, Putting them on, I was suspicious when they...

replacement valves stems for '83 GS650L

hmm. Funny that we both had 650s though mine was an 82 and not an "L"-it had a 17" rear wheel and yours is 16"...but it's not impossible that certain tires match particular "tubeless" rims better especially in the early '80s.

replacement valves stems for '83 GS650L

ah,so. It's worth another try to rebead it....but- um what brand is it? I had similar troubles but much slower leak with sloppy fit of Avons on my gs650..they'd deflate over 500 miles...tried several times to re-bead em but finally gave up especially as they began to crack ! Bridgestones were a...

replacement valves stems for '83 GS650L

Yikes. That's a pretty bad seal at the bead! ....how old is the tire? I'd be inclined to get a new tire rather than fuss with concoctions to seal an old one ...by the way, it seems a bit odd to have so many balance weights at the tire stem. Possibly the trie itself is poorly made or the tire's...

replacement valves stems for '83 GS650L

I've used car-tire type...with the rubber stem. The ones used on car-rims are too big but there are smaller sizes (below) Maybe the smaller diameters are used on trailer tyres?.... You need to make a simple tool from a metal valve cap and a nail to pull them through the rim so it's not as...

77 GS400 more ignition point troubles

^^that's what I am trying to establish as a first suspect. Gotta start somewhere. Then, "up the line" to coil's power supply. 2),3) above will also show if there is power to the coil...by simply grounding the bulb or negative probe.

    Ignition woes

right, don't hold the starter button too long. ...really, don't hold any starter button too long. I even give my battery a little rest between attempts. I think it helps.

77 GS400 more ignition point troubles

    1) with power off, and points disconnected from everything, use the ohmeter. function of a multitester... One lead to where the power comes in (the insulated side) the other to ground( the base plate) rotate the engine with a wrench so the points open and close and the meter shows infinite...

    Ignition woes

it's true a car battery will start a bigger fire where resistance = 0 because it'll take longer to drain it and, once started, your charging system will be charging a bigger battery...but that doesn't matter if the car battery is in a decent state of charge....but if you are nervous about that...

77 GS400 more ignition point troubles

Forget the coils for now. Disconnect them- can you get make-and-break across the points with your continuity light? That is the first thing to know and fix.

1980 GS250T all around ignition failure?

I think the 250 uses the same ignitor as the GS450 and (twin) GSX400. You can cross reference part numbers here: https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs250t-1980-t-usa-e03_model16006/ignitor-unit_3290047020/ also check your signal generators and spark advance. They might cause the symptoms you describe...

    Ignition woes

If you have a normal 'wet-cell" type perhaps you drained the acid when you dropped the bike. Check the fluid levels. It will still offer an ok no-load voltages but be unable to supply enough power to start the bike. The "click" is probably the solenoid trying to start the bike. If this is what...

    Stator cover wiring

the wires from stator eventually have connectors you can unplug. Follow them . You'll eventually come to a spot near the component that is the voltage /rectifier/regulator (the "R/R") Then you can put the cover on the bench. I don't have Harbor Freight here (We have "Princess Auto") but I...

77 GS400 more ignition point troubles

that's so ugly...yes it'd be best to redo if it's at all loose or seperating but maybe better not to mess with it yet! I'd try just cutting the black wire and connecting your new capacitor to it first-.of course Wrap with good tape or slip heat-shrink tube on...naturally.you don't want that...

Help me decide upon a windscreen for my '83 1100E

added thought: You may also have to change your handlebars.... When I add an effective windscreen or fairing, I can feel a more noticeable weight on my handlebars.... It can be "got used to" but the inevitable thought or trial is more rise! on handlebars " and so on. An extra sweater under a...

    Stater and Reg/Rect problems on 82 GS650Ez

Facts about shunt-based regulators It is complicated but I get that people are happy with their fixes when they work. But with 60 hp (44,760 watts) inches away, 60F degrees up or down doesn't turn my crank that much even assuming that it's scientific and not "evidence produced to suit"... You...

Help me decide upon a windscreen for my '83 1100E

I Haven't really liked any windshield except a Real Vetter ,..... by a long shot. buuut I just put a "Police Style" windshield on my CB450S..slipstreamer..a "deal"- and I was chilly that day so I bit! It is really big-intended for a different bigger bike entirely (had to mod the mounting-note...
