A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

Just a thought- how about the spark plug caps? they generally test as 5k ohm through a ceramic resistor inside....if you are using RFI plugs too that's a sum of 10k. This (10k) works fine generally on my bikes if that's what I have handy but (without knowing) I'll guess yours, like mine, are not...

    Stator Wire Gauge?

The original stator windings are indeed very slightly smaller than 18 but I rewind with 18. It's fairly hefty for the demands on these bikes. I dare say making a new harness with 16 gauge wouldn't fit under the tank That said, the red wire going to ignition is larger than the most of the...

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

I see you've disconnected the regulator. I was going to suggest that per a possible parasitic load When kill OFF. I can see jgetting one last spark as the fields collapse but surely not more. If you can get a consistent spark when it's off that's a big clue- a bodged rewiring or the like...

    Stator Wire Gauge?

I'd use what Suzuki uses +1 or 2 only if you can suit the crimp connectors and easily bend the wire. If I recall, the wire windings on the stator are 18 in solid wire so that'd be a minimum on Power bearing wires...go bigger on stranded wire. ...but going to what the starter uses( the size on...

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

(this^ seems as big as i can upload but it might be zoomable downloaded..?) suspicious? Given that there should be no diff in these two excepting a voltage drop from "other loads" (?!) turned on by the key switch...any other loads to disconnect? Maybe testfor something unwanted-(ammeter) or...

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

It really should be simpler than all this...your battery seems ok per voltages and as pqford says starting the bike "pulls it down" as much as it ever will be though a slight help is disconnecting an 'always on" headlamp. Have you yet simply applied momentary voltage to each coil and see them...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

Good! Now We Know What causes this..yes, from bwringer's rebuild I was thinking you could just file the divot out on the plunger shaft... It came to mind wondering how soft the steel was and if it was (or should be!) "case hardened". It really shouldn't wear in like that...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

I've heard of it before here on the forum with a youtube video attached but I don't remember if it was resolved in detail...I do remember trying to help so it might have been in the last year.

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

If you mean the big knurled knob won't turn, No. there's something wrong. Properly, it can easily be turned by hand against the spring that's coiled around it. I think you'll have to take it apart. Refer to bwringers nice take-apart page....and there's probably more at BikeCliff's Website ...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

I don't bother but you can if you want. or just turn the engine round to "a tight place" . Then Lock the pushrod and take the assembly off. When you reinstall it, have the pushrod locked all the way "in". Then release the locking screw (about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn)...then tighten the lock nut to...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

It's best if you understand how the tensioner works...The shaft of the tensioner pushes forward against a moveable plastic blade to take up slack on the camchain-BUT it's supposed to be a one-way device and should not be bouncing back. The bigKnurled knob is involved in THIS important feature...

Cant Keep 1982 Suzuki GS450GA Running

Intermittent running is hard. Especially when you start considering electrics....Look through other recent threads in the last 6 months. ie: member Ukjules has had a couple of these of electrical nature..The latest was a bad ground where the plate that has the electronics mounted under the side...

    1985 GS550ESF Speedometer Inaccurate

Too bad-the tripmeter is your best fuel gauge. It might be fixable taking the gauge apart but I wouldn't recommend it...Best if you can find a good second-hand replacement... With the normal tires, the odometer and the tripmeter (if it works) are the only accurate device on these speedometers...

    1977 GS400 Running Lean

You have to know your valves and pistons are providing suction and that carbs are sealed at the engine-side first. Taking the pods off and putting your hand over the carb mouth or measuring manifold vacuum might inform as to leaks.. Did you know the seals were leaking in the first place?and if...

1979 GS850 Oil Pan Gasket DIY

It's quite easy. get the 'karopak" gasket paper in a roll from local auto supply(get the thicker variety of the usual two choices) and some cheapo hole punches and razor-knife at the $ store. use your sump cover as a template, tapping a bolt through holes as a marker. The holes are the most...

    Brakes not building pressure

Judging by your description, the problem IS air. My most common problem when this occurs is a bubble in the MC...indeed the tiny hole in the Master is involved in my solution. Firstly, protect the MC area and your painted surfaces -the gas tank! with clean rags...remove the MC cover and then...

which clear coat for polished aluminum (reviews?)

Too bad...Maybe it's worth looking into. It's very tough and works well on sailboat spars......The original coating had a certain look that had me wondering but it may just be they had a certain prep* before a coating was applied... *The "certain prep" might be as in this found in Google group...
