DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

which clear coat for polished aluminum (reviews?)

Mr Negativity here but I think the sliders and engine casings were anodized originally and then coated. Stripping them removed this protection and corrosion is thereafter nearly instant unless polished with a "polish" (aka a wax residue) constantly... Naturally, this wax gets burned off engine...

Thrifty! That's a lot of bike for $50. and I like your dad's sidecover-bags-a Nice solution to missing sidecovers. There's another member here who had that leatherworking skill...

Gas Flowing out of Crankcase Breather hose

I don't think you are wrong. But it's important to know a full tank of gas exerts more pressure than a 1/4 full tank that the vacuum valve has to hold back.... But float needles should hold the fuel pressure back too, irrespective of the petcock. You can emulate this without "a full tank of...

Fine tuning mixture screws to fix finicky idle?

Airbox.... you can stuff/wrap your suspect connection with tape to see for yourself. ( Sometime, you might want to get a heat gun and fix the deformed airbox ...) Bad tach, eh? These old tachs can get tired anyways....I can accept your estimate that the idle's too high-to most people it's...

BS32SS needle and seat leak driving my nuts

Yes they are hard to fix for no known reason. I'm at 50%. Weirdly, swapping parts from ORIGINAL taps can work where New Kits do not. I've never seen a kit that includes the spring.

Gas Flowing out of Crankcase Breather hose

yes, and IMO float needles (or petcock) should hold back a FULL tank of fuel whether on Prime or not.... there's of course always the exception: say, a tank with no vent heating in a parking lot :)

1983 gs1100e need help with wheel and tire situation

huh!well I stand corrected! My 81 gsx 400 star wheels are not tubeless ... My 82's 650's "y" wheels were tubeless and said so with DOT stamped on the rims too, I recall.of course tires have had "DOT" stamped on them for a long time. I expect they still "approve" rims too but I'd have to go look...

Gas Flowing out of Crankcase Breather hose

Yes, that's one way-bad float needles and their seats There's two ways for fuel into the sump: overflow from bowls into engine and/or through the vacuum petcock's vacuum line into engine-ie the vacuum diaphragm of the petcock has failed. Naturally, the first of these assumes the carbs are tilted...

1983 gs1100e need help with wheel and tire situation

Too funny! but also, I think Suzuki had to get their new! improved! tubeless rims DOT approved and somehow didn't...ie: 80-81 cast alloy "star" look are not properly tubeless but the next year's '82+ "y" look was approved and tubeless...you can see the early alloy rim changes at All Suzuki...

Fine tuning mixture screws to fix finicky idle?

ASSUMING your tach works, Needing to run at 2k rpm sounds too high to idle means you are needing to open the throttle plates and thereby engaging the main throttle fuel circuit to keep the bike running...(oh, and did you bench-synch" the throttle plates?) My first guess would be Too much air or...

    No power?!

So you can power stuff with jumpers but the key does nothing? You can disconnect the R/R's Red (output) and the rest of it too, to take it out of the suspect list*. Then, at the fuse box, put a jumper between red and orange. If it works, suspect the key switch and the length red and orange wires...

Back for more help *eye roll*

Your bike seems to idle fine..and anyways Boots on choke plunger shouldn't bother it too much but you can pack some grease around them temporarily to see if they are letting massive amounts of air in when they are closed(choke off) but I doubt it. "pin stuck in venturi" doesn't sound good...and...

1980 GS400e Manual Spark Advance / Electronic Ignition

It's an Oddball burden! :) I hope you don't have to explain it to too many people too often!... a bike in the Twilight Zone between two technologies (points/EI) and bureaucratic evolutions (VIN/serial).

LED woes never end! [1978 GS400]

hey Great! We learn something new! Funny because there's lots of threads here where people are arguing to get rid of resistor plugs! and perhaps that's what your PO did...I wonder-does your bike have the original resistor spark plugcaps? or did the PO get rid of them too...it should be about 5k...

Back for more help *eye roll*

The problem is your brother. You must kick him really hard in the shins and ask just what the heck he did to your bike! Put diesel in it? Generally, it's the simple thing nobody bothers to mention. Also common is in the neighbourhood of the last thing done to the bike before trouble. (your...

LED woes never end! [1978 GS400]

Sketch of circuit wire colours suiting older Suzukis....for someone with two indicators, the diodes wouldn't be "married" -just one per indicator.

1980 GS400e Manual Spark Advance / Electronic Ignition

Stamped on the engine, GS40X [engine serial follows] refers to the GSX400 engine. On the frame, I have a proper VIN stamped in with no relevance to the engine's serial #

LED woes never end! [1978 GS400]

Well,, know I remember why I didn't save a diagram...it's too simple. I used the original connector on the new cheapo ebay relay. The wire colours in the pic are Light Blue, Orange and Black. Black is the "extra" and it goes to ground (E ="earth" on the relay) Orange is + power (("I"=current? on...

LED woes never end! [1978 GS400]

Ok. I'll make a sketch up and take a picture of my relay. They ARE cheapos from ebay (amazon will have the same) but have been good. Cheap enough to buy a spare. Yes it's frustrating. I too often run around in circles giving life to the handy homily: "repeating the same experiment hoping for...

    Shim Help

Yes-Good Point! it's a bear under there..Thanks for remembering for me! however!- If you turn the big knurled spring-loaded knob on the tensioner it releases the cam chain tension somewhat*...I won't say it's enough to lift one one end of each cam because i can't remember and I sold my 650...
