A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Choke Modification back to plunger style?

an elastic band or strip of inner tube wrapped a couple of times around the steel cable and housing at end might provide the friction. Or... lightly squashing a ferrule,or two flat bits with a screw clamping them controlling "friction squash", or...

GS1100E OEM Petcock broke internally - expensive junk!

pm me with an address and I'll send you that bit. Diameter Dimensions will help confirm, but they all seem to be the same.

    Clutch actuator

Hi NewGS Guy..The cable end can fall out of these easily when cable is slack. It happens when you put the casing back on while lining it up to the Clutch Push pin ...so if you get a new one, use a bit of wire twisted cunningly to keep it all together while replacing cover... This might have been...

Choke Modification back to plunger style?

Yeah. Something like this..after all, you only have to hold the housing in place. You could even lash it with wire or string to something...(Boy Scout knots! sailors knots!) Once done, just put something knobbish on the cable. You MIGHT want to put a spring on the carb to make it reliably pull...

    GS650G weight shed

It might be better to get a different bike that you are comfortable on. Otherwise, They (the 650 GT) are quite a long reach compared to other bikes I have. I don't think a smaller tank will help you (keeping it half-full gives the same effect per topweight but the length you stretch over is the...

    New bike/biker - battery?

so now charge it up to "full" with a plugin battery charger...if you have no charger, and live in a neighborhood of houses, at least 50% of the guys in your neighbourhood have one...or there are alternative means-attach to your car battery with a turn signal light bulb" in series" and go for a...

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

Good oh! I can bet you got it.... I've had exactly the same thing...from experience, "silly" is transitory compared to the feelgood of "fixed"!. :)

    Very Odd Suspected Ignition Issue

as above diagnosed, not spark. I suspect lack of fuel mix and especially where bike dies at low rpm-the idle passage and jet... "no adjustment" by idle mix screws confirms ... "bad compression" may indicate valves not adjusted=too tight. You should try a more thorough job at the carbs and...

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

Tubes or not, my cheapie gauge on the cheapie compressor can say 60# but we were all cringing in fear... so I can't swear that's accurate :) More than the tire's "max pressure" or you're supposed to need anyways. I don't worry about the tube-it's constrained by the tire.

    Source for touch-up paint needed

Nail Polish. Comes in a billion colours and is a laquer. You can mix them too. But get some remover/solvent or just acetone as well to thin them if needed. Goes without saying? that patience and real skills to get a really invisible match so do just one first and consider if it didn't look...

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

I think your first thought-poor tire mount-is the most likely. Tires often (always?) have small "bead line" on the tire very near the rim-look for a dip in this. You can also spot bad tire seating on the bead by spinning the tire in the forks versus a stick/ruler/ clamp/whatever held in place...

    New bike/biker - battery?

You can't trust the bike's old tachometer too far as to accuracy. Just set your idle to please yourself on a well -running bike. And don't worry about charging at idle unless you spend a lot of time at stoplights- just rev the bike up to what looks like 3-5000 and test VDC across your battery...

    77 GS750 Sprocket whine & chain adjustment

GS450 Runs rich at low throttle

Here's an idea that's a bit wild- the metal carb floats? Still seems odd to me they aren't plastic like my '81.of course it doesn't matter if they keep the level and seal the needle in it's place (do check for a functioning float needle-it must be able to stop flow when floats at level, however...

GS450 Runs rich at low throttle

What year is this 450? I think "TX" can be a little confusing. In Suziki-speak it means "a 450 T ("traditional" )model made in 1981 (= the "X" ) or (I recall) a 450 T ("traditional")X ('special") made in 83? and until when they began to put out the entirely remodelled 500 based on the same...
