I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Good sealant for carb float bowls?

Thanks, Ed. No fuel level issues. I did check, a few times. I always use the over-priced genuine float valves too and never mix valves and seats. I'll try the Z1 gaskets. I've always wondered how old the gaskets are that I've bought. Generally they feel very hard. I never had leaking until the...

Good sealant for carb float bowls?

I've about had it with leaking bowl gaskets on my '79 GS1000 (VM26mm). The carb body gasket surfaces look good, clean, no corrosion. I always use new genuine Suzuki gaskets. I also use stainless steel hex bolts instead of the original Phillips screws. As has been the case the last couple of...

Same here. '79 GS1000. There is no perfect spring.

    VM26 carb tuning help

An exhaust leak wouldn't result in one white plug reading. If you had an intake leak at any manifold due to a leaking o-ring, you would notice an obvious increase in rpm's as the bike warms up. A good 300 or more increase. The classic scenario is the bike starts and first idles at 1,000 rpm's...

    VM26 carb tuning help

You said the bike ran well before you took things apart. Your list of things you did, if done correctly, wouldn't result in ALL of the problems you list now. The only thing that you list that shouldn't have been done is installing the larger pilot jets. Larger pilot jets wouldn't result in...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Congratulations on the 50K mark. Keep in mind our speedo's are notoriously optimistic, so I doubt you actually hit a true 50K. What is the average speedo error, about 4-5 percent on our bikes? I think an indicated 52-53K will be close to an actual 50K. So you still can celebrate later!:) Thanks...

    If not jetting, then what?

I'm not sure how a single carb can be mounted crooked as you say. They're all connected via a plate. It can be a bit difficult to "pop" the bank in but it's not that hard to put them in all straight. If they spent much time not inserted all the way, the inside of the manifolds could be...

    If not jetting, then what?

Unstable idle and spitting out of the filters are classic lean issues. I assume you are running pod filters? What brand? Do you have a quality aftermarket exhaust? Did you re-jet? Any other mod's? Don't bother to spray the intake manifolds. You can often miss the leak. Since you've had the carbs...

1979 850 MAC exhaust carb jetting

If your stock main jet size is for example, 100, I'd try a 105. I doubt you'd need a larger increase. The main jet takes over completely at 3/4 throttle position. I'd test before making changes to the jet needle position. Try running a constant 50 mph on level ground/5th gear and then again at...

    GS1000 full choke RPM?

I did read the first post, and the next post and the next. That's why I replied as I did. If it means nothing to you, it might to others. It is a forum. As rphillips replied, my carbs don't stumble either at cold warm up. Also, your 1000, if the carbs are stock, does not start stone cold at 35...

    GS1000 full choke RPM?

No one's going to agree with others if their warmup routine has no obvious consequences. If it works for them, it works. Anyone with just average knowledge knows that oil won't flow as well when it's cold. It won't lubricate the parts as well. Compromised lubrication equals accelerated wear...

    GS1000 full choke RPM?

Personally, I'd never warm up my '79 GS1000 at 3,000 rpm's. If the carb's pilot circuits are reasonably clean, why would you have to pull the choke up that high to keep it running? I realize "pulling the choke all the way out " as Doug says, can result in varying rpm's because of choke cable...

RE: VM26 throttle return spring. Anyone found a lighter one?

bwringer, thanks for the reply and the link. Very informative. I think the slides need just about all of the stock spring's return strength to close properly. Not much room for error. I'm just going to give up on the lighter spring idea and install a Vista Cruise which many here recommend...

RE: VM26 throttle return spring. Anyone found a lighter one?

I'm thinking you're probably right about not being able to go much lighter. One spring I had that was made of noticeably thinner wire, was easier to expand but wasn't a night and day difference. It did make the throttle a little lighter but the return dragged a lot. Based on that experience, it...

RE: VM26 throttle return spring. Anyone found a lighter one?

RE: VM26 throttle return spring. Anyone found a lighter one? Anyone found a lighter spring that reduces hand fatigue but positively returns the throttle? I've found a few at various websites that may work but I have no idea what the stock spring's "pull strength" is to compare. The free length...

Recommendations for small, portable air pump?

Thanks for all the replies and links, discount tips! Much appreciated! The Dynaplug Ultra Compact unit looks like a re-badged Motopump Airshot, which I like. I'll check out the Slime, but kinda hard to trust something so cheap?? Will check out the others too. I have a plug kit from Genuine...

Recommendations for small, portable air pump?

I'm looking for a reliable, lightweight air pump to add to my tool kit when I travel. I'm hoping some of you have bought something that works well. I'm looking at the Dynaplug Ultra Compact 12V, another pump from Stop 'N Go, and a Bikemaster mini pump... Any you recommend? Thanks.
