A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've gotten gloves, one jacket and one pair of pants from them. I don't think I've ever dealt with a business that was any quicker or more helpful, except my own local auto mechanic. And is it just me, or is Megan on the website really f***in' cute?

What good is a kickstand anyways

This may work for a lot of people - probably the majority - but for someone like me, who parks regularly (workdays nine months a year) in a ramp, the floors slope enough so that I'd be uncomfortable using a centerstand.

Southern Indiana: IN Route 66 - WOW!

Yes. As someone who travels to South Bend frequently and has been between there and Indy several times, I think you'll have to head into Michigan.

    Cheapo Rear-Set

Damn, that would be kind of cool....never even considered it. I had old Triumphs and a Norton, all right-side shifters (which I still prefer, but I'm used to shifting on the wrong side). The Norton was a '71, so it was a four-speed, one up, three down. It really is a much better pattern than...

wes cooley 79gs1000s original I think? how much do they go for?

I understand everything about tehm but the apehangers. I see people riding with them and it not only looks incredibly uncomfortable, but you have close to zero control of the bike. Can someone help me with this?

    Cheng Shin tires?

That's all the evidence you'll ever get. You have to trust his wisdom. Also trust that there's no appreciable difference between our motorcycles, riding styles, rider weight, etc... His wisdom is his hard evidence. He keeps it protected by an extremely thin layer of skin.

    What oil to use?

I?ve been using the Rotella-T 5-40 synthetic for a couple years, maybe 4-5 oil changes. Seems fine. No leaks, smooth shifts, probably burn about a pint in 2000 miles, which is approximately nothing. I'm pretty minimal about maintaining my bike, incluisng claening it. the main thing is...

my 750 faster than a new bike?

Just habit now, but I always look at the back tire of every sportbike I see parked. Literally 9 out of 10 are seriously flat-spotted in the center with fresh rubber on the sides. They buy the bike because it?s the baddest on the road ? and it is ? but without the rider skill they waste all...

    Best Sealed Battery?

Very cool. I thought 1) I'd have to pay $100, and 2) there would be huge differences between them. We've got a Farm&Fleet - I usually buy all my batteries there - but I never checked for an AGM.

    Best Sealed Battery?

I'm sick of having to go through the BS of reattaching my little vent tube only to lose it again. I'm sick of acid eating my bike. '82 GS1100E - who can give me opinions on the best sealed battery and whether or not there are any downsides? Thanks for your overindulgence. Bert

    78 GS1000..how much faster is an 83 1100?

Just remember, time is only money if you can trade it. Obviously, we could all go get part-time jobs at McDonalds, but for most of that don?t own a business, we swap other things (time with kids, other projects, etc?), but time is usually not money.

    Steel grate deck bridge

Have to agree with Geoff (not really uncommon actually). Keep a light grip on the bars and let the tires wander a bit. I just went over the Lansing IA one last weekend. The Pirellis seem better on it than Metzelers did, but it's still creepy.

Performance Bicycle Park Tools TW-1 torque wrench

For you folks that adjust your own valves (until recently, everyone but me) and use the Real Gasket silicone gasket). The torque specs for tightening the valve cover when using this gasket are really light - like 15 IN/lb, as opposed to ft/lb. I looked for a torque wrench that was delicate...

    GS Sightings

For years, I drove across part of Canada on a regular basis - essentially Windsor to Cornwall. I always went to TH's for coffee and a box of twenty donut holes. The coffee was in paper cups - certainly better for flavor, but hot as hell. They would always ask if you wanted a 'double cup'...

    Work on Bike Vacation

That?s a fine use of vacation. I?m taking next week off to paint two dormers (that appear to be approximately 80 feet in the air), perhaps rebuild my front stairs, adjust my valves, replace brake pads, serious clean the GS (even getting off the custom latex house paint overspray), installing...

I broke my own rule today.

Currently 80-90 degrees with Wisconsin humidity. In town, it's Vanson all-perf leather jacket, Alpinestar vented sport boots (SMX-something), vented gloves with carbonish knuckles, Shoei full-face helmet. Out of town, it's all that, plus First Gear Mesh-tex pants. But I know I'll sacrifice my...

New/used Hard bags installed and painted. *PICS*

Those really look sweet, Billy. That whole bike is such an inspiration. I'm sure you covered it in another thread, but who did your paint (and $$$?)?
