A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    A GMC 2500HD brake question....

...for the Brain Trust. Going to help my neighbor put new disc's and pads on his truck. I've done tons of front disc and rear drum, but never rear disc. I think there's a tool we need to run the pistons back in on the rears, but that's about all I know. I'm sure I can pick one up at the auto...

    82 1100GL Final Drive

If it ends up you need the final drive unit, I remember Marty Dexter "Dex" screen name, bought one off eBay I believe. He found out he just needed the drive ring on the wheel. So, if he still has it, he may be willing to part with it for a fair price.

Suggestions for keeping track of disassembled parts?

When I pulled the engine out of my Polaris snowmobile to rebuild it, I took digital pics of everything, especially the wiring routing. Every nut, bolt and washer went into labeled zip lock bags. The guy helping me thought I was nuts. During reassembly, I would take one bag at a time for whatever...

    Stockers for starters

Can't say enough. Great website www.stockers.com full of easy to find information and pricing. Called them up and they were very helpful. The starter arrived exactly when Elwood Stocker said and they pay the shipping both ways. Check them out.

    Starter Motor questions

I know physically they're identical, 9 tooth CCW rotation, but the 850 starter says .5kW on it and the 1100 starter shows .6kW. I also looked up the starter on bike bandit and from 79-83, they used the same starter (2 brush) on the 850's but the part number was different for the 1100's. Possibly...

    Starter Motor questions

Brian, just an update. I called Elwood Stocker and ordered a reman starter. Painless. Plus, this is a total rebuild with new bearings, seals, shims and oring. And to top it off, there's a 10% discount till the end of the year and he's taking both my core and the spare 850 starter. AND, free...

    Starter Motor questions

Thanks Brian. I went to their website. I'll call them today. I'm interested in possibly just getting a remanufactured starter. By the time I clean up the commutator and get all the rebuild parts, I may just opt for one already done from them. I also purchased awhile back, a starter off ebay for...

    Starter Motor questions

1982 GS1100GLZ. Ok, so I tried for a ride yesterday and after a couple of cranks, the starter motor stopped. Trouble shot it down to the starter, so out it came. Not pretty. Pulled it apart and found that the brushes were pretty much gone. So, here's my questions. The armature looks worn...

    Unleaded fuel

The manual for my 82 1100 shows that you should use 85-95 pump octane using the R+M/2 method or 89 or higher octane rated by the Research method. I ususally run 87 octane in my bike with no problems. I sometimes treat it to 89 when I'm feeling generous, but I couldn't tell you of any power...

    New 1983 GS1100GL Owner

I'd maybe have the carbs synced, change the fluids as see how it runs. Also, I'd just replace the air filter with a stock one. I got mine through Dennis Kirk, it was made by Uni. Properly set up stock, this motor should be more than powerful enough.

    about my 1100L

Yeah, just check out the Gallery. The 1000 was a GL (shaft) with the 8 valve motor. It has the round cam end covers. The 1100 was an L (chain) with the 16 valve rectangular cam covers.
