A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Remove vent caps when recharging battery?

If you're charging with a trickle charger, say 1 to 1.5 amps, you shouldn't have to remove the vent caps. I don't think I'd charge it at any higher rate that say, 2 amps. If it sounds like it's cooking, you may be using too high a charge rate.

    Buying Hints for GS models

The G is the standard model, the GL is the cruiser style with the step seat and the pull back bars. The GK is the model with the fairing and luggage. Hope this helps.

    Buying Hints for GS models

Nick, you know we was just funnin ya. I agree that the standard G has a superior riding position. Back when I had my original L and my brother had an 850G, we'd swap bikes and I have to admit that his was the more comfortable for a long haul. But, there's just something about the looks of the L...

    gs1100gl oil leak.

I think I know what you're talking about. I have an 82 1100L. It is a 3/8 hole that runs vertical up to where the starter is housed. It is a vent hole. I believe that if oil is coming out of it, someone told me that it is probably the seal at the end of the starter motor. I do have a jpeg of it...

    82 GS 1100 L - Technical Difficulties

Hey Daniel, I have the factory shop manual for this bike. It's the same as mine. If you want, I could send you all the schematics for the wiring. It would be easiest if you get me a fax number that I can send it to. I think if I scanned them, you may lose some resolution. Let me know. Al...

Cam end rubber plug deal question

I had the same thing! I bought the bike and during my first ride, I noticed a slight oil leak out of a couple of the cam end covers. When I got home and it cooled, I took them all off. Little pieces of rag behind each cover. Because the cam cover didn't leak I didn't want to take it off to...

    Popping????

Hoses Hoses Dan, I didn't see the other vent line, although with the tank on, it's hard to say. So do you think that the line that draggings can't find a place for is just the second vent line?

    Popping????

Hoses Hoses I just went out and looked at mine. Its an 82 1100GL. It looks like I have three lines. The main one of course is the fuel line. The one between the two left carbs is the vacuum line to the petcock. The one that's between the right two carbs looks like a vent line. It goes over the...

taken 3 weeks to get carbs rebuilt and synced!!!!!!!!!!!

Carb Sync Carb Sync In defense of the 9-5 mechanic (it's not me), I took my bike to a local cycle shop for the carb sync. They're not a dealer but a repair shop. I dropped it off late Saturday and the bike was done Tuesday morning. It never ran better. I spoke with the mechanic and he said...

    air forks

Air Forks Air Forks I still use the original Suzuki air gauge and my home compressor. I set the regulator on the compressor for about 10-12 lbs. Then I check the pressure. It seems like every time you check it, you drop about a pound. So with that, it's pretty simple to set them. The key is...

    tach gear assy.

Tach Gear Tach Gear Also while you have it apart, spend the eight bucks for the two seals. One is a flat faced o-ring that goes around the housing and the other is a press in seal for the tach gear shaft. It'll keep the garage floor neat!

    Backfiring, pop, pop, pop

I like the air screw idea also. I had the same thing with my 82 1100L. After a trip to the shop to sync the carb's, they also adjusted the air screws. No more popping when I let off the throttle.

Indicator problem - this should be so easy.... but

Obviously, You aren't completing the circuit on the left side for the indicator to work. Bottom line is that you need to get a DVM, disconnect the hot and ground to the left rear turn signal and check for continuity. You should get a reading through the hot to ground, anything but an open. If...
