A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How many GS's is too many GS's?

Old bike insurance in Iowa is cheap. I pay 127 bucks a year for a 1981 850 Suzy and a 1984 Guzzi, combined.

How many GS's is too many GS's?

How many bikes do I need? Silly question. One more than I have.

    a new oil question??

IMO, you are right that it is not "thinner". I really am unaware of the science of it. But anyone who's ever poured cold oil knows it flows much more easily, which may be the same to most folks, and myself, as being thinner.

    850 Engine Noise

I got my 850 with 32K on it. It's around 70K now, and has always sounded like that.

One of the coolest part of my new old GS

My son used to borrow my 59 Olds just to go cruise and talk to the endless gawkers asking him about it. I get that some on my GS, but the old Moto Guzzi Cal II really gets them looking.

Tweakers molested this bike, need help with the rebuilding process.

I'm a big fan of the stock airbox, but one round with it will have you never wanting to do it again. Try the pods, if it fails in the end there wasn't a lot of money involved.

    Gs850g vs 650g

I searched around the net some, and almost all reliable sources had the GS850g running around 12.32 in the quarter mile. The best I saw on a GS650G was above 13 seconds, I saw chain drive GS650's as low as 12.7-12.9. So feeling punchier, weight or not, doesn't make it so. My nephew has an all...

    Gs850g vs 650g

Well, just drop back one century, to the 20th, when your bike was made, for air cooled punch?....Here's one that was fast https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xj650_sega%2081.htm The KZ650 was a worthy competitor, All the 750 air cooled 4's were beefier in the engine dept...

    Gs850g vs 650g

I'm not remembering which years might have this problem, but it's a small problem. They are available (I have one on the shelf), and not expensive. A simple inspection will tell you it's condition so if shaky you can dig one up before getting too far from home.

    curious .. startup after sitting

Unless you have enough gas bleeding into a cylinder to lock it up hydraulically, It should turn over easily even if it won't start. It doesn't want to turn over with a good battery?

what did you wrench on today??

My 850 would slip the clutch a bit under hard acceleration when I got it several years ago. I replaced 3 of the 6 clutch springs as you say with heavy duty aftermarket springs and it's been all good ever since. Still have the other 3 collecting dust.

    Gs850g vs 650g

There is no way I ride any distance 2 up on a GS650. I consider the GS850 adequate, with the 1100 being the ticket. I love my 850, but the top heavy is starting to bug me in my old age.

    1980 GS1000G - Smoke at start-up - should I buy?

My son Chris has a 750 Guzzi. He likes everything about it. He was an inline 4 middleweight kinda guy before. The HP difference is not relevant to the pleasure of the bike. It has plenty, just not a real hotrod. It's light years better than my GS850 in handling, and the lower weight and center...
