A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Case Savers/Crash Guards 750T

Could you not make your own brackets? The originals in my opinion are quite flimsy and don't line up nicely when you try to align with the other bar on the other side of the bike they never seem to look level when looking front on. I made these out and were a bit fiddly to get lined both sides...

Welded crankshaft..to be or not to be, that is the question.

Thanks for the response, it does help settle things in my mind, I don't know if my Tig welder has enough power to weld the crank, but i do know the whole thing has to be disassembled to get to all the places. I also don't think i have the level of skill to lay in the exact weld it will need. The...

Welded crankshaft..to be or not to be, that is the question.

I'm sure it's the same theory, my BIL cut and shaped me some (I think) 20mm thick steel plates because you have to catch the whole web evenly. I have only a 10 ton press but it seems to manage ok. I would send some photos of the plates but I'm not near them. I was hoping for some feed back re...

All interesting reading here, I have a question. Does welding the crank cause any distortion at all? Once this is all assembled and straight i want to weld it

    GS1000s Clutch Help

In fact looking closely at the photo of an obviously originally very nice inner low mileage clutch hub it looks proper buggered. apart from the obvious, there's some misshape and some cracking going on there. Replace it as Chuck says

    GS1000s Clutch Help

Yep, clean it up and put it back in OEM are really expensive if you can get just dress that damage with a fine file. That business of standing on the brake and slamming it gear is only brutally destructive. The way to do it is to take the bike for a ride with the clutch in until it frees off...

Mikuni VM26 Pilot Air Screw Access - to drill, or not to drill...

It might come to that, I don't think i have any 26'es either... When I get back to UK i'll pick it all up again. 9 months since i was in my shed... I think i looked at the throat of the carb with that in mind and thought that the hole looked oval on the other side of the slide... Anyway the need...

Signs of fuel in petcock vacuum pipe.

Visable as a dampness in the tube you mean? That is supposed to be a vacuume pipe so shouldn't be wet at all... But doesn't sound like anything to worry about, are the float levels all ok?

    Best cylinder mounting tricks?

If the tin can is too thin that will be more problem. I just use a jubilee clip first on the inside two pistons then the outside pair, slipping a piece of wood the right thickness under the barrel block helps a lot if you're on your own but it helps a lot if you have a second pair of hands...

    Official Katana Picture Thread

I have this one, an original SZ1000 with 7k miles on the clock. US models have CV carbs I think the rest have (I think 36mm slide VMs, I looked for ages to find a Kat and this came up from a bike dealer, he had squirted VHT paint on the pipes. I understand that only 130 or 160 of the 1000...

    Unblocking passageways

Thanks for the response. If you have any of that detritus remaining it would be interesting to drip some vinegar or phosphoric just to see what fizzes it away. Just one more question, out of the three? passages you opened was any one worse or more blocked than the others?
