I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    starting trouble

Not too sure about the carbs on your bike, but if it has breather pipes, try blowing into each (see my tip in tech tips), its worked well for me over the years and surprised a few others too !.

    Brake bleeding

A handy tip I picked up is to bleed the brakes as normal, then after nipping the bleed nipples back up, pump the lever several times until you feel a bit of pressure, even if the lever feels spongy, then on the last pump hold the lever in, then use a cable tie around the lever and handle bar to...

    Kickstart on 82 550

Don`t know if this is any help, but I have a 550 motor intended for my next chop. I think its out of an 82 bike, but am not sure, though the cover on the rhs has no hole for a kick start. The engine has been stripped, and inside the crank cases have been milled to take kick start gear. I guess...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Great news !. Yep, bikes can be funny things. My old CX can be running fine, but park her up a couple of days and she is a pig to start, always used to flatten the battery trying. Once going, she runs fine. Fortunately, I found that breather trick works for CX`s too, so don`t usually have any...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Nobody thinks you are an a-hole !. If you are`nt comfortable pulling the carbs then it`s best not to. Sorry to hear that the breather trick did`nt work but blew a baffle, wow !. Makes me think something else is amiss as that has never happened to me and I`ve used that trick for years !. Have you...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Yep, thats a bit too cold for tinkering with the bike !.

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

It won`t help if they turned off your power and you`ve got no light, but I still think its worth a try in the daylight. You may have to pull the end of the breather pipes up from where they drop down the back of the engine. The pipes are not clipped in place so you should be able to pull em up...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Yes, just blow hard a couple of times into each tube. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

The hoses are open at the end, but air does`nt actually blow out when the engine is running. All the breather pipes do is vent the carbs, to allow fuel to flow into the float chamber. Basically the float chamber is sealed, except for the very small outlets of the jets. The float needle inlet...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Just realised I might be able to direct you to the breathers before trying to post the photo !. Go to the site homepage, and in the directory find the carb clean up section. The carbs shown are CV carbs not slides as on your bike, but similar regarding the breather location. If you look at photo...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Hello again Shirley S. On my GS750`s, both the tubes connect direct to the carbs. They are black rubber/plastic. Not sure what the white coupling you mention is though, does one connect between each pair of carbs ?. If so could be the breathers. You don`t need to disconnect them, just trace them...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

No, its a good picture, its just my attempt to explain things that are probably confusing !. If you take a point midway between 2 & 3 on the photo you marked up, move down to where the choke lever is. Just below the lever you can see a cylindrical bulge in the carb body, almost horizontal, and...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Hi ShirleySerious. I`m a complete nougat when it comes to computers so I have`nt been able to circle the area on the photo, sorry. If you look at it though the carb you can see is what I call the No.1, the one behind No.2 etc. The carb breathers are on the No.2 (carb just behind the one visible...

    GS750 Carb balancing problems

Thanks, I`m a lot clearer now on what I need to do. Just got to sneak into the garage while the missus is`nt looking !.

    GS750 Carb balancing problems

Are those metering screws connected with higher speeds than idling, or do they affect both ?. I`ve never understood what they are there for really as if I remember my carb theory right the pilot air screws adjust mixture from idle to 1/4 throttle, the slide cut out 1/4 to half and the slide...

    GS750 Carb balancing problems

Thanks 49er. Must admit when I stripped the carbs I did`nt touch those screws at the front of the bowl, as my manual said not too cos they are factory adjusted. If I do take them out to clean, how do I set them up again as it does`nt give any guidance. Chances are a previous owner has messed...

    Poor starting tip for GS550 & 750`s

Sorry Bravozr, just saw your question today. There two carb breather hoses on my GS750. One connects to the body of no.2 on the left hand side just above the float chamber, the other to no.4 (working from left when sat on bike looking forward). They drop down to the rear of the engine along with...

    Air screw adjustments

Hi JC. I`m pretty sure if you wind the screws in (clockwise) it richens things up, wind them out and it weakens the mixture. Having said that though, I know on some carbs it is the other way around. On both my GS750`s I`ve found that although the manual setting is 1 & 3/4 turns, I have to turn...

    GS750 Carb balancing problems

Having had the carbs off for a clean up, I have fitted them back on and tried to balance them using my Carbtune guages. Problem is no matter what I do, the guages just won`t settle. I`ve had a job also trying to get the tickover smooth. I set the pilot air screws out at 1 & 3/4 turns each to...

    Shimming valves on GS750

My GS750 is starting to sound a bit tappety, so thought I`d check out the valve clearances. Unfortunately, my Haynes manual had a run in with an oil tray a couple of weeks ago, and the page I want for the settings is no longer readable !. I seem to recall that the clearance for both inlet and...
