A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Don`t worry, the GS has a cover over so she won`t see the Enfield leaving my garage !. Oh yeah, "Henry" will make it ok, might take just a tad longer to get there

Nice one Tank, I`ll try to get this tag tomorrow, think there are a couple nearby, but will have to go on the Enfield as my GS is off the road. Does it have to be a GS in the photo or will the Enfield do ?.

what did you wrench on today??

Finally got a bit more done on the single carb conversion on my 750 Virago. Manifold made and on now, just had to make up a bracket to hold it in place when the carb is bolted on. Cleaned up the old Morris Minor SU carb, so will fit that tomorrow if all goes well. Need to get the bike back on...

what did you wrench on today??

I took the Bandit 1200 out last year before the bad weather set in, it rained a bit and I washed the bike when I got back. A few days later had to move her out the garage to get to my welder, noticed the front fork sliders were blooming like crazy. Think the council had been out salting the...

    The journey of GS550C

Hi Hakim, I`ve enjoyed following this thread, following the ups and downs you have experienced keeping the bike on the road. And lots of photos too !. Sorry to hear about your father in law, but good that he has had the surgery, hope he makes a full recovery soon. Had to smile at what you...

    Fast Granny

Sorry guys, never thought the term zimmer frame was just used over here. Yes, it is a walker like the picture Redman posted. Wish I had`nt been so rushed, I could have listened to her all day, she had some really interesting stories I`ll bet. Should have got her contact details in hindsight, but...

    Fast Granny

Had to pop to the post office today, the GS is off the road for overhaul, so I thought it would be good to give the Royal Enfield a little run. Had just parked up and was taking my helmet off, when I heard a voice behind me. Well I`m used to the old boys coming over for a chat when they see the...

what did you wrench on today??

As a change from the GS, decided to get my XV750 back on the road. She has been sat in the garage over a year now because of carb problems, had a bad misfire on the front pot. Took the carbs off, stripped and cleaned them then put them back on, after a struggle. Not the easiest arrangement to...

    Hardtail Bobber

Hi Scudder, I had a few concerns too when I chopped my 750 many moons ago, ended up welding in gusset plates all over the shop, but in the end had one of my mates sort it out, as he is a professional welder. I think if you have any doubts about the welds, would be well worth getting it checked...

    Decisions, decisions !!

My 79 GS750 has been sat in the garage about two years now gathering dust, since I lost my job and could`nt afford to keep her on the road. I`m self employed now, just about keeping my head above water, but really want to get the old girl back on the road. Catch 22 is that while I have a good...

    Travel Tales from the UK

I should have sent you a phone number. I`m self employed so was probably at home, never mind, catch you next time around. Glad you had such a good time over here though, enjoyed the photos especially London, only been down south a couple of times, even though my wife was born and raised in Essex.

Hey Charlie, if you came down the A68 through County Durham to pick up the A1, you just about passed my front door, wish I`d known, I`d have put the kettle on !.

    Engine cleaning

Thanks guys, I was thinking lazy ways to do it, but probably get better results anyway getting stuck in with brushes, de-greasers etc. Plenty of time on my hands now anyway, so I`ll give it a go !.

    Engine cleaning

Thanks BassCliff, guess it was a bit of a daft question and I probably will have to get stuck in with a brush and de-greaser, but not looking forward to it. Hoped there might be someone out there who had tried steam cleaning though. Ah well, I see a few hours of scrubbing and rinsing ahead !

    Engine cleaning

Thinking while I`m out of work and have time on my hands, I might give my 79 GS750 a makeover. She has been my everyday year round transport for a lot of years so is a bit grubby. I plan to strip the bike down, re-paint the frame, swing arm and wheels, and rewire the bike as a PO`s wiring has...

    GS750 Makeover

Thanks chaps, I`ll give those places a call. I`d forgotten about Wemoto, got brake pistons and seals from them a while back. I`d better check out the local florists well in advance !!. Wonder whether flowers would buy me space on the kitchen worktop for cleaning up the engine, bit cold in the...

    GS750 Makeover

My 79 GS750 just failed its MOT test on the steering head bearings. Still handles great, but the MOT man would not let it go. So now my dilema !, I`ve always been one of those who thinks "if it ain`t broke don`t fix it". The GS still runs/handles great after 15 years of abuse, being my main...

    Powder coating

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Guess there are pros and cons for both powder coating and painting, so I`ve got a bit of weighing up to do !.

    Powder coating

Been thinking about stripping down my 79 GS750 this winter, so am debating whether to get the frame powder coated or just paint it. I`ve had a look at previous posts using the search feature, but still have a few (probably very dumb) questions to ask about powder coating!. First off, is it...
