A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It was added by someone that doesn't understand the system. Grounds are a common loop. Only one battery ground to frame is needed. That is why the factory uses one.

79 GS550 No Spark Electric Conundrum

I've been doing exactly as I said for 21 years. It is correct. I said continuity light, I was referring to using a bulb to show continuity. Perhaps I should have said continuity bulb. A continuity tester has a self contained battery and would be used with the ignition off. a continuity...

79 GS550 No Spark Electric Conundrum

THE "continuity Light" I refer too is just a 12 volt bulb in a socket with two wires. There is no battery. It gets power from the bike. This might help with setting the points. Setting Points Gaps and ignition timing. The points are located under the round cover on the right end of the...

    Hot fuse box

OK, thus far you know it is the 10 amp lighting circuit. So....... I would open the headlight shell and remove the bulb. Then turn on the ignition and see if the fuse box gets hot. If it does, you know the problem is in the tail light or rear number plate lamp. The instrument lights and...

That just means either of them can be faulty. It only take one faulty to have the problem.

    Hot fuse box

I am guessing that HD stands for High Intensity Discharge lights. (well known for flagrant high amp consumption.) Your lighting upgrade? Anyway, their power consumption exceeds the capacity of the fuse block and associated wiring. I would install a direct from battery lighting wire with a...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

Adding an additional ground doesn't change anything. The fault is still wired into the system. What you're doing is like having the light in your living room flickering and then turning off the light in the bedroom expecting that to fix the problem. lol

    Hot fuse box

Yes, but I would not. You might want to add a phone charger or some other accessory some time.

    Hot fuse box

Yep, the fault and hottest spot will be at the point of contact of whatever is causing the problem.

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

I doubt you have a short circuit. You have a loose and corroded ground connection inside, or at your fuse box. Possibly the large ground wire that connects to the top of the tranny (either end).

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

I keep doing it because I figure Ian is more likely to check GSR posts than his text msgs. LOL However, tonight, just now, I spoke to him, got the info packed into his ear and he should be in the workshop assembling toys soon. lol Told him to call me if he runs into any snags. He will fill...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

OK guys, I wasn't trying to make this a cliff hanger frustrating anyone. I only wanted to keep it focused. The problem in a nutshell is that Ian has his carbs shut down. There is nothing mechanically wrong that i can ascertain. I'm going to make him turn them on. lol
