DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

The purpose of the exhaust gaskets is to seal, not transfer heat. They seal the gap between the exhaust and a giant chunk of finned aluminum that is your main heat transfer medium. Oem exhaust gaskets for the GS series are either aluminum or thin steel, interwound with some type of heat...

Adam Reinke passed away Monday the 24th.

Adam was a great guy. He's the first person I met at a GS rally when he and I were the first ones to arrive at Maldonado's for dinner in Nashville on Friday night in 2004. The rally was a much different affair back then. I always loved his "business casual" look at rallies when the riding...

Old Hondas are cool too, in fact they are Dreamy

Diablo Cycle (formerly Reproduction Decals) in Canada has decals listed for sale on their website for many Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki models. No Honda. They say that Honda will go after them for copyright infringement. They do have many sets available for Hondas if you call them and ask...

Bring a reliable bike, a couple hundred in cash (little cafes and shops in southern Indiana often don't do credit), and be prepared to ride a lot in the daytime and talk a lot in the evenings. That's about it.

No, that went away when the girls got their motorcycle licenses. When's the last time somebody showed up on a twin under 500cc, I wonder? The only small twin I remember ever seeing (other than a couple of the newer GS500s) over the years was the one year somebody showed up on a GS300L. That...

I was considering showing up on a Honda...But even I know that would knock me down a couple rungs on the Coolness Ladder.

I missed the last two, and before that I'd missed one since my first one in 2004. I was in Iraq (long story) in 2008. So they let me off the hook for that one.

Would one be considered even more than somewhat cooler than average, or less cooler than somewhat cooler than average if one showed up on a classic KZ?

RPM gauge accurate up to 6000-7000 then flutters

This tach is electronic, just like on my GS700ES. And just like on my GS700ES, over time it becomes inconsistent and “bounces”. i don’t know the fix for it. I just go used to it I guess.

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

Ron & Larry, I did this once years ago, with a GS650E tank. Unfortunately that shop went out of business when the owner retired. One of the guys who worked at it ended up at another local auto repair shop. He said there isn't near the business in radiator repair now as there was before...

Changing your own tires, is it worth it anymore?

Cycle Recycle II does it here for $25 if you bring in the rim and new tire, $10 if you buy the tire there. He sells Shinko tires at decent prices, and can get Michelins (my favorites), so if I call the week before and order the tires, they're waiting for me when i come in with the rims. That...

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

Yup, once I can examine the inside carefully to determine the extent of the damage, I plan to solder it up just as you described, Ryan, then repaint. It never hurts to have two complete sets of bodywork for these old bikes. Oddly enough, of all the bikes in my collection, this was the only one...

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

It's too cold here to work in the shop, even with a space heater. Once I get a chance to pull it, I'll give it a good look inside and out to see how bad it is.

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

The twin shock, four cylinder KZ750/700 models imported from 1980-1984 (they were offered in Europe a few years longer with shaft drive and a sport touring setup) were evolved from the original KZ650. As such, they were much lighter and felt smaller than the 750 class bikes offered by Suzuki...

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

Tom, I have both GPZ750 versions in my garage, sort of. The original '82 GPZ750 was a twin shock, fairly conventionally styled bike for the time, like the original '81 GPZ550 and 1100 models were. They were all modified versions of existing standard models (KZ550A, KZ750E, and KZ1000J) and...

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

Found a basically NOS ‘83 red tank on eBay. I think it’s a dealer take off, there is one tiny dimple on the front side of the tank. Couldn’t resist so bought it. I received it today, still in the original factory box. I’ll rate it 9.5 out of 10 for condition. I already have a perfect red...
