A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Oil filter

Thanks, but how do I check the gasket in advance? Where in Canada can I walk in and buy Suzuki filter 16510-45040 or equivalent?

    Oil filter

Would this be the same oil filter for my 1982 GS650G? Not sure what part ID to look for.

This makes me so thankful for my GS

My bike before my 1982 GS650G was a 1969 Triumph T100S Tiger 490cc single carb. I bought it for CAD$3,600 in 2006 and over the next eleven years and 20,000 miles it broke down so often I think I spend $15,000 in rebuilds. The final straw when when the engine exploded, cracking the barrel on...

    Gs850g vs 650g

I like the GS650G for its relative light weight, shaft drive, air cooling and power over 60 hp. That’s about all I need. When I was looking for a GS bike I saw a GS850G, but thought it was much heavier, and to my taste the squared tail on the 850 isn’t as nice as the sloping tail on the 650.

    Gs850g vs 650g

Let's consider the technical differences of the GS650G and GS850G. For one, the GS650G has plain bearings while the 850 has roller bearings. I assume the plain ones are more at risk if oil gets low or dirty. And the GS650G has its drive shaft to transmission output more compactly located in...

    Gs850g vs 650g

True, though I never considered my GS650G as a performance machine. I can't find dyno results for the GS650G, but here they are for the GS750 https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/downloads/dynocharts/dynocharts-suzuki-80-85GS750?d=1 Maximum power output: 72 hp/ 8.500 rpm But the claimed hp is...

    Gs850g vs 650g

I’ve owned my GS650G since early 2018. My earlier bike for eleven years was a 1969 Triumph single carb 490cc twin with at best 35 hp. The GS650G with three more carbs and 180cc more engine feels like a rocket to me. I’ve never ridden a GS850G, but find me an air-cooled bike made in the 21st...

    How often to replace Helmet

My new one is the IS-Max 2. I just wish the internal visor was darker.

    How often to replace Helmet

I kept mine for ten years, always in its cloth bag, riding rarely in direct sun as I prefer cooler days. I eventually replaced it because the helmet manufacturers tell us 2-5 years so I figured even though the helmet looks good I should replace it. I took the old helmet, Shark Fusion full...

Babbits....aka Suzuki partshouse , not taking orders until 02/15/2019

Shipping costs on eBay is ridiculous and treated as a profit centre instead of cost recovery. I often email and ask for reduced shipping and several times folks have agreed. But really eBay should its own shipping model where the actual cost of shipping is billed separately to the buyer.

Babbits....aka Suzuki partshouse , not taking orders until 02/15/2019

I haven't had any luck there. My experience with incorrect parts and back orders leads me elsewhere. https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?248896-Good-service-from-babbittsonline-com&p=2522682#post2522682

Thanks for that. I have been looking at the MG V7 as a second bike.

    1980 GS1000G - Smoke at start-up - should I buy?

Agreed. And I can?t buy a modern equivalent to my air cooled, shaft drive 650cc anyway. A Guzzi 750cc twin is as close as I can get, but with about half the horsepower.

    1980 GS1000G - Smoke at start-up - should I buy?

Has he seen the bike yet? I would not discount a look based on the owner's phone call. Maybe he's set up the bike wrong, who knows. My GS650G smokes a little on start up and my mechanic said just leave it, it's not burning a noticable amount of oil, the plugs are clean. I paid CAD $900...

GS1100GK engine rattle at low revs

I had a similar issue, see vids of my rattle here https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?253258-Regular-clicking-sound&p=2498748#post2498748 So I took the bike in to my local expert mechanic specialized in older Japanese bikes, and had the carbs synched, valves adjusted and the...

    Good service from babbittsonline.com

I've have the opposite experience with my 1982 GS650G. I've used the parts schematic tool to ensure I've referenced the right part ID, and still I was shipped: 1) Wrong engine case emblems 2) Gold instead of silver tank emblem 3) Incorrect bolts for seat grab rail (wrong length, wrong thread...

Let's don't forget our once a month battery charge and startup?

I assumed it was to run the engine until it starved of gas, thus getting all fuel out of carbs. On my GS I don't drain the carbs, but instead add fuel stabilizer and run it on idle to mix up the fuel, then cover the bike in dust (not moisture barrier/trap) cover and forget it. I keep my...

China is a communist dictatorship, and in its thirst for foreign currency demands exports. So, China subsidies the shipping cost.

    Rear shock shopping

Problem I’m having with Progressives is that they don’t have any with silver bodies. Sure you can get silver springs, but the inside is black, and more importantly the upper and lower mounting points are black, and I don’t want the silver covers that hide some of the black body. I want...
