A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    '81 GS1100E skinned with '82 GS1000G/GK body parts.

They're completely different bikes in every way. Frames, engines, drive system, bodywork, proportions, etc. I think the front wheel bearings and maybe a few nuts and bolts might be the same. It is super-annoying when you're looking for parts or whatever and it's just listed as something for a...

    Tire bead question

I haven't owned one, but I've done other work on at least three or four other examples of '82 and '83 GS1100E. None had tubes by the time I saw them, and none had any issues.

    Tire bead question

Agreed. The OP's 82 GS1100E definitely came stock with tubes. If the OP has the slightest doubt or question, then keep running tubes. It is possible to convert to tubeless by machining a flat seat for the tire valve with a counterbore and pilot; takes about five seconds chucked into a...

    Tire bead question

Bike details would be very helpful... c'mon, don't be so shy! The GS model line spanned the years when motorcycles were transitioning to tubeless tech, so it's a complete hodgepodge. It's also a hodgepodge we know pretty well, but we're not clairvoyant. In general, conversions to tubeless need...

    Installing crash bars for gs850g

Yep, be careful about punching a hole in your engine. A common error. For the lower mounting bolts, the kits originally came with one bolt. You were supposed to move the longer of the two stock bolts to the other side, and use the new bolt on the other. They probably saved a whole five cents...

1981 GS1100EX Front Forks Air Joint O-Ring Part Numbers

The '83 GS850G had a very similar crossover tube setup, and the o-rings are depicted there. 09280-06005 -- the 90280 indicates an o-ring, and the 06 indicated a 6mm ID. No indication of the thickness. I'd strongly suspect this is the right part number. Suzuki didn't like to design new parts...

how do you install a new harness. 79 850 g

Two things: - The manuals should have diagrams of the wire and hose routing. I know factory manuals do, and one of the aftermarket brands does. - There's a certain consistent logic to the way wiring harnesses are routed; pay close attention and think carefully about things like what needs to...

    !@#$% Tube!

Similar incompetence, more than cost, led me to start changing my own motorcycle tires long ago... if you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it yourself. Dale, give me a call if you still need advice or assistance... If a rim hasn't been drilled out, this is the motorcycle...

    GSX 250 starter solenoid issue

Solenoids are normally dead reliable. They make the gound connection through the mounting bolts, and most common issue I've seen with these on many bikes is that the plate they're mounted on is rubber mounted, and that plate is not grounded (earthed) correctly. Maybe the ground wire from the...

    First flat tire experience.

Some explicitly mention and ban puncture repairs, and with some the wording is something like "tires must be in good condition, with X% tread depth..." or "tires must be undamaged"... "Undamaged" is clear enough, and would preclude plugs. "Good condition" might have a little wiggle room...

    Front brake switch

I've had to carefully file the mounting holes oval in order to make a little room to adjust these damn things. Worst switch design ever. At least it's quite simple.

    Top 10 Newbie Mistakes

Does this need a Spring 2024 bump? Surely someone out there has invented a whole new Newbie Mistake... One thing I'm going to mention for our influx of spring newbies is to PAY ATTENTION to where you are posting in the forum. Don't just click the first subforum you see and start blathering...

    Battery amp lesson help

As far as getting an amp-hour number, no. The best you can do with a standard multimeter is functional testing using the motorcycle to create a load. Start with a charged battery. Hook up the multimeter DIRECTLY to the battery (use jumpers or clips so you can use your hands, careful about...

HELP! No pressure on brake lever after removing banjo bolt

I'm guessing that you accidentally slurped some air into the master. To get the last of this, you have to remove the lever, loosen a bleeder somewhere or the MC banjo (with a rag around it), and push the piston alllllll the way in with something suitably pokey and blunt that won't scratch the...

Brake return and switch spring locations?

Yup, that looks about right. Don't forget to lube the pivot. It's a very common solution to the complaints "Hey, how come my brake light is on all the time" and "Hey, how come my rear brake smells funny and the rotor is turning blue?"

    White wall

Maybe something old-timey from Coker Tire? https://www.cokertire.com/tires/vehicle-types/motorcycle-bike/16_inch-wide_whitewall-double_whitewall-narrow_whitewall.html But in actual sporty sizes/shapes remotely appropriate for the bike -- nope. This is my current go-to for oddball sizes and...

    Question about turn signal wiring

Sorry, just noticed that I made a typo: my bike is an '83, a "D" model (not an '82 "Z" model), and AFAIK, all the '83 Suzuki models had front turn signals with running lights. In fact, in that photo above, those signals are the black bodied signals from an '83 1100E; later on I acquired a set of...
