I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Mechanical advance governor

Bike: 1978 GS750E. Does anyone know the difference between the 2 mechanical advance part numbers listed on the fiche? Mine is rusted hard and both part numbers appear to be available on ebay BUT...I’m not sure which to order. I see what looks like identical units to what I have under both...

'78 GS750EC: replacing countershaft oil seal

I?ve got my cases apart right now (same bike and motor) for a rebuild/cleanup etc so I?m looking at this seal...I?d definitely try the method described above and find a snap ring to replace the c clip. Worst case you still have a leak and your?re only out an hour or two. How bad is the leak...

    Timing chain stretch/wear limit

Ok I need a spot of help...I have the factory manual and the aftermarket manual. I CANNOT find the spec for timing chain stretch limit, i.e. how many pins you measure and what it should be on a 1978 GS750. Can someone point me in the right direction...I don?t know how many miles are on this...

    Set valve clearance on bench?

I?m at a stopping point where i need to order some parts and wait for them to arrive. I?m looking at the design of the motor (1978 GS750) and thinking it should be possible to check/set the valve clearance with the head on my bench. Since the cam lobes are the only thing interacting with the...

    Painting Calipers

Blasting it will always be the best route to getting a clean/consistent surface if you have a way to do it, if not the suggestions above will work. As far as paint I settled on something designed for guns when i was refinishing my small parts. I?ve used 2 different products: Norrell?s...

    Hot tanking aluminum parts?

So all the crap either cooked off or wiped off after tanking, came out alright. Including the clear coat that seemed to be on the valve cover (decided to do that first as a test run. Much less expensive to replace if its damaged).

    Hot tanking aluminum parts?

Alright I’m giving it the yeoman’s....don’t know why photos aren’t embedding now. Simple green pro diluted in water 5/1 ratio https://imgur.com/gallery/UoNZQVD

    Hot tanking aluminum parts?

Interesting about the simple green pro, i wasn?t aware of that stuff as I?ve only seen the normal simple green cleaner, ill look into that. I?m set up at home for bead and soda blasting but i was hoping to try the tanking route just so i can do something else while it soaks. I may end up doing...

1977 750 front brake rebuild shenanigans

You know I messed about with those on my ?78 for HOURS. It was simply maddening....so I quit and drank a nice dark beer while i thought it over....here?s what i concluded after my 2nd bottle: the caliper body is aluminum, the boot retainer obviously steel, maybe its just pressed in? And with...

    Hot tanking aluminum parts?

I?d like to hot tank my cylinder head and jugs to help remove 40 years of crap, grease, oils and whatever else..does anyone know of a common aluminum-safe degreaser that will work well but not cost a fortune? I see a few different products advertised as safe for aluminum but it?s so expensive...

    VIN vs Engine Numbers?

y 1975 RM125 HAD matching frame/engine numbers. Unfortunately the cases were ragged out and I found an NOS set on ebay which i used to rebuild the motor. Now the cases don?t have a number at all and I?m wondering if i had some Uber-rare matching numbers suzuki. Or maybe that was just a function...

New, Aftermarket Wiring Looms for Frankenstein Project

When you say ?loom? do you mean wiring harness? Like the bundle of wiring and connectors that runs through and around? Or the actual loom which is the covering for the wires? Either way you?ll hafta make your own on a project like that but possibly these guys could sell you the correct loom...

    Carb gangplate bushing material

So I originally thought the seals were rubber or something else but they are definitely felt. I ordered some SAE grade F-1 felt through Grainger to replace them with. Bronze bushings are pressed out for re-oiling (41 years old...), 10mm socket is the perfect size for that. Is all of this...

    Carb gangplate bushing material

Interesting, thanks. I just finished the coating on the plate, went with Norrell’s Moly-resin in the “stainless” color. I’ll take on the bushings next.....

    Carb gangplate bushing material

The bushings behind the seals look like they might be pressed in bronze although im not positive. The seals would be to keep dirt/grit from scouring the bronze or whatever surface is there to maintain a smooth throttle control. Probably could get away without them BUT on restorations/builds...

    Carb gangplate bushing material

Well they definitely LOOK like rubber. Maybe they had a felt outer covering at some point? I?m going to bake them at 300 F for an hour. I hope they hold up or i guess I?ll be looking to source some seals...
