A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Red dust on my chain...What is it?

77 550 New chain (o ring) and new sprockets, 1000 miles ago. This may be a stupid question, After cleaning and lubing my chain, then riding 50-60 miles there appears a redish dust on the chain and the side stand where it comes up and under the front sprocket. There is no caked...

my guess is GS400 or GS450, not a 425 (because they had kickstart) and not an L.

    Modern headlamp options?

I would reccomend changing over to an HID set up. Seach for how to's and reviews here. It will draw at 35Watts instead of 55w and the output is amazing. You will probably need a new reflector and those can be had for about 35.00 on Ebay. I have HID kits on both a 550 and an 1100. On the...

    Anyone Heard of BUB-4-1 exhaust??

I ended up purchasing the BUB system and installing it. The quality is excellent and I really like the sound. The guy had some reverse cone baffles for the system and I bought one of those as well. The fit was perfect except for the foot peg mount. My early 550 uses a clevis arrangement for the...

    Anyone Heard of BUB-4-1 exhaust??

My knowledge is limited on this at the moment. I do know that BUB is the same one that has the streamliner. The Exhaust is made in USA and not farmed out to China. The guy who has it now guessed that it was made in the 80's. I do not believe BUB is still making these. I wil be able to...

    Anyone Heard of BUB-4-1 exhaust??

I came across a shop selling a BUB {out of California} complete NOS exhaust system. Looks to be of good quality, I wondered if anyone had one or had an opinion on the sound or fitment. 4-1 megaphone style with baffle. I am thinking of this for my 77 550. Thanks in advance.

    carb sync tool

adding to this thread not hi-jacking...... Has anyone tried to put some sort of easy to get to adapter on the carbs? Like a remote mount? Suzuki put my 1100G cynch ports on the bottom of the carb boots and made them a paint to get to. My 550 is the same way only less clearance.. Just...

Removing a rear shock spring without special tools

+1 on the spanish windlass. I use some clamps to hold the "stick" or piece of metal. My 550 manual suggests two tire irons to force the spring down.

where is this oil coming from?(pictures)

I can lend some expirence with pesky little leaks like this. Super Glue. Clean the area with something that will remove all traces of oil. Spread the glue over and around affected area. If you happen to have some of the accelerator for the glue, even better. the repair will hold up to...

Leaking VM carb bowls your thoughts

I can confirm that the leaking is coming from the bowl/carb body, not the overflow. If the gasket sealer isnt fuel proof what does everyone suggest to seal the leak? I have used this stuff, with great results, on both fuel and brake fluid leaks on other projects...

Leaking VM carb bowls your thoughts

I forgot to add, petcock works as it should. that was the first thing I checked. No whatsoever on reserve or on. Pours on prime. I took the rack off and sparingly used gasket sealer on the bowl mating surfaces after making sure they were spotlessly clean. This has cut the drips down just...

Leaking VM carb bowls your thoughts

77 GS 550. 12,000 miles. Overall good condition bike. I have a very very small leak coming from the float bowl to carb body area. (as far as I can tell) The problem shows itself when bike is parked on side stand. Carbs have been disasembled and cleaned and new Cycle O rings kit...

    tool for idle fuel adjust

I too have the motion Pro tool and the modification is nessary. Abench grinder is all it takes. I am using it on a 77 550 and i believe I still cant reach one of the carbs. No big deal but the clearance is too small.
