1100 Katana restomod with 1230 engine

No machining whatsoever! I thought I would have to provide some form of lock stops but in fact the lower fairing support does just that. The stem of the DL 1000 looks very long but fits with no issue. More details here...

1100 Katana restomod with 1230 engine

My 1100 Katana has been modified over the years and I'm now totally happy with the result. The modifications were mostly related to installing a modern suspension with 17" wheels. As we all know, the issue with the GS bikes is to keep enough ground clearance with modern forks that are typically...

GS 1100 cylinder head on GS 1150 cylinder block revamp

I got a deal on the Wiseco 77 mm K 1299 pistons that I bought today. The rebore should be done by early next week! It's far kicker than I thought!

GS 1100 cylinder head on GS 1150 cylinder block revamp

I discovered that the GS 1135 engine runs with BS 36 SS carbs versus BS 34 SS on the 1100 engines! Luckily, I have the larger carbs on my bike. They are marked OOAOO on the side. I'm now wondering what pistons I should buy? Wiseco, JE or MTC? Should I go for 76 or 77 mm?

GS 1100 cylinder head on GS 1150 cylinder block revamp

Good news today; I found a GS 1100 EFE head in good condition on ebay! It will nicely complement my GS 1135 engine but I hope that the carbs will still fit in my Katana frame???

GS 1100 cylinder head on GS 1150 cylinder block revamp

That's good news! Is it normal that the head gasket is not round but has lobes around the combustion chamber???

GS 1100 cylinder head on GS 1150 cylinder block revamp

I'm in the process of rebuilding my engine my 1150 engine that came with an 1100 cylinder head. I believe the previous owner used to drag race the Katana with this engine and I'd like to know if the components are OEM or not. In attachment you will find a picture of the top of the pistons and...

More modern cartridge fork options - retaining GS wheels & proper/revised geometry

My personal conclusion for GS 1000 and GS 1100 Katana is to use a first gen R6 RSU fork for the GS and Bandit 1200 stanchions with DL 1000 triples for the Katana. Here's a pictures of the GS 1000 so equipped. The GSXR 1100 engine further helps for ground clearance of course...

    1981 gs750 (gs750e) Retro Racer project

Hi Larsh, Where do you get the tubing to hide the electric cables from? I was also considering using a Motogadget m-unit on my XR 41 replica but unsure it would reduce the amount of cabling... To me the best position would be inside the fairing as that's where most of the wires are located?

Wes Cooley's bike at Le Mans Classic Days meeting

Last week end I went to a "Classic Days" meeting in Le Mans France. The meeting took place at the famous Le Mans track and while mainly a car event there were some nice bikes on display and on track. Among a vast collection of racing bikes, there was a GS 1000 based Suzuki previously raced by...

Katana 2019 and 1984 side by side

I took a picture of my 1984 Kat next to the latest model from Suzuki. The dealer let me ride the new bike and of course it's a whole new world. The chassis is much "tighter"without beeing harsh, the brakes are phenomenal and there is a lot of power. The riding position is exactly the opposite to...

    Catalytic converters on Katana 1100?

As far as I know there are two types of AFR sensors: the narrow band with the kind of tolerance you state and the wideband (more expensive) type that's used with AEM type ECU's and AFR meters. The car guys state that the cat converters will die if the AFR goes below a 11 to 1 ratio. Wikipedia...

    Catalytic converters on Katana 1100?

I'm so happy with my restomod Kat that I'm wondering if I could add some catalytic converters to my exhaust pipes? The reason beeing that as I ride most of the time with my wife riding her own Triumph Street Triple R, she gets intoxicated by the exhaust fumes... I know that cat converters must...

Raising the rear of the 1100 Katana without changing the shocks

You are right about the Katana, it's kind of an acquired taste. They sold very few of these here in France as the riding position was very ackward and the weight really prohibitive. Strange to know that Suzuki was developping the first GSXR's in those days to become the lightest bikes of their...

Raising the rear of the 1100 Katana without changing the shocks

I'm planning to measure the rake and trail of my various bikes to determine if there is some "magic" setting for these. Apparently the common modern standard for 17" wheels is around 25? and 100 mm. Honda's latest CB 1000 R is one example that I've tried personally. The tires play of course a...
