I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Welp... After testing out my neighbors crampbuster I got online to order one, but then I paused. I thought about it for a moment and realized that yes, the crampbuster allowed me to relax my right grip which is great, but it doesn't let me take my right hand off the throttle to shake out...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

First test with the cramp buster on the interstate today. Only rode ~33 miles but I can see the appeal! I'll have to order one after I give it back to my neighbor.

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Now that we've come full circle back to heated grips and hand fatigue solutions, my neighbor stopped by the garage today and gave me his cramp buster to try out. I had mentioned to him the other day that I wanted to try one but there are so many options online I wasn't sure what to try. Hope to...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

It would seem so! I've only been riding for 6 years, so I'm sure I'll have more stories to tell as time goes on. When the day comes that I have to give up riding due to age, I hope I'll be able to say I only dropped my bike while stationary. If I can say that, I'll say I did well overall.

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Thank you for the kind words. I do feel accomplished, not that I was able to do the work but that I was able get it completed. Seems like life always gets in the way of doing things I enjoy. I love working on my bike, but I also love being able to enjoy it on the road. It's been a 6 year project...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! That does sound embarrassing haha. Oh well, it happens. At least in that gas station story, you have a legitimate excuse for dropping the bike. Parking on a slope is sketchy. I had no excuse in my situation. This is the second time I dropped my bike...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Not really maintenance related, but wasn't sure where else to post this. I probably shouldn't say this because it's embarrassing, oh well. I took the 850 on a short ride this evening. It was cool and overcast, my favorite riding weather. When I got home, I pulled into the garage and shut the...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

I finally finished the repairs/maintenance I started a few weeks ago. I installed the new EBC clutch frictions, installed the near tach gear drive, finished the valve adjustment, and wired in my new pressure brake light switch. Boy howdy, the bike pulls hard now! The new clutch bites good. I...

    Time for a new clutch

The lever adjustment is quite simple. You just rotate the shaft until it engages the clutch basket release shaft thing (Suzuki calls it RACK RELEASE) and put the clutch lever on the splines in a position that allows the clutch cable to connect to it, with enough cable adjustment either way...

    Time for a new clutch

I know what you're refering to, but the 850 doesn't have a clutch pushrod coming from the left side of the bike, like a 750 for example. Check the parts diagram on Partsoutlaw to see the exploded view. I wouldn't be able to type a comprehensive description of how the clutch works on an 850.

    Time for a new clutch

The EBC clutch parts showed up along with the others I was still waiting on. Slapped the clutch together and as I was torqueing the clutch spring bolts, one snapped in half. Ugh... Took all apart, drilled it out. Got a new bolt. Got it all back together finally and it RIPS. It was definitely...

    83 GS850L Valve cover gasket thickness/material

I'm looking for the OEM valve cover gasket thickness. I searched the forum but didn't find an answer specific to my model. Not sure how much it varies by make/model. I've tried to order an OEM Suzuki gasket twice now. The first one got lost in shipping, says it's still on it's way but it's...

After speedo change out 10 mph off

It's the same way in the USA. It varys by manufacturer, but I believe most American made autos have a speed reading of 5-7% below actual speed, and is considered acceptable. I imagine it's the similar if not the same for the 2 wheeled vehicles as well. Course you also have to consider the build...

    Time for a new clutch

Well I'm annoyed. I tore the bike down to get a list of parts to order while my family was out of state over the last week. Figured if I ordered everything before we left town, the parts would likely be delivered by the time we got back. All the order ETA's were scheduled before we got back, so...

    Valve cover gasket

It surprised me too when first reading about people greasing gaskets. But I tried it on my clutch cover gasket using WD40 and it didn't leak a drop, nor did the gasket appear wet anywhere along the seam.

    Valve cover gasket

I could be wrong but I think the point is once the gasket is permanently deformed (flattened) it may not seal with the factory spec torque applied to the fasteners. This may cause some to over tighten the fasteners with hopes it will stop the leak, but instead strip the threads.
