A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Schott leather

So again, it seems they don't have any way of accepting returns. You may as well suck it up and take their offer. Hopefully, they have something in the same price range that won't be a piece of junk. What were you expecting, anyway? For $100, you don't get much in terms of leather these days...

    Schott leather

Quite possibly, the seller is a middleman company, and they don't have the ability to process returns. There are china companies on Amazon and ebay the same way. Their only option is to refund and have you keep the item.

    Are these ok compression numbers?

Z1 has shims for $6/each. Your compression numbers are okay. Proper test method is hot engine and throttle held open. BTW, once you figure out what specific shims you need, PM me, and I'll check my stash.

    Selling question?

My opinion is to either sell it as is for $500, or put some work and money in, and sell it for $1500-$2000 after you get it running. Bare minimum: pull the carbs and send them to chuck. While the carbs are off, pull the rubber carb boots on the head, inspect them closely for cracks, replace...

The END is near (California guys)

It's working out GREAT! Thanks for asking! I've got a gifted 1995 Homelite Super 2 chainsaw that I'm starting work on. It's a homeowner grade saw, but that's all I need. Low mileage, but the rubber fuel lines are shot. I replaced them a few years ago, but the lines the shop sold me are too...

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

Excellent! Glad the formula is working well for you, Tom. It's so simple, and cheap. Wish I knew about this back when I was doing more restoration work. BTW, that Laverda of yours should get a thread in the "other bikes" forum. I'll follow you anyway! Super cool!

    RIP Rob and Michelle Reiner

I worked with a guy that I'm pretty sure was schizophrenic. He seemed perfectly normal, at least as far as my casual relationship with him was concerned, but then one day he didn't show up for work. We didn't know what happened, and then one day someone saw mention of him on a police blotter. He...

Rabbit fur? Ha ha. That's unique! The coat came in. NJ to CA in two days. Can't beat the service. Unfortunately, it's too small. Tight across the shoulders. He lifts weights several times a week, so my bad on the size. My son has been to the Schott store in downtown LA a time or three...

You should have known better, Rob S. That said, I'm tempted to buy a Backstage Car Coat for my son. I presume this is the sort of garment that he can carry forward the rest of his life? Hope so, because it's $1200.

    1980 GS1000S frame and parts

Something seems off regarding those numbers. The '79S had a 52XXX serial number and '80S has 53XXX. That said, that frame does appear correct, although the photo is small and hard to be sure.

    RIP Rob and Michelle Reiner

Rob Reiner cranked out a lot of great films. The Princes Bride and The American President are two that stuck with me. He was a brilliant story teller!

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

Of course. Just be sure to remove the petcock, fuel sending unit, if so equipped, and gas cap. Fabricate or buy plugs. Allow the tank to vent when cleaning, or pressure build up can damage the tank. Use a mirror or bore scope to validate all rust in the tank is gone before quitting. Spend...

    Aluminum re-finishing.

Did a google search and found these in 3" diameter wheels. Is that what you used Don R ? Not cheap, but anything that saves time is a good thing! My personal approach to polishing aluminum involves first stripping the clear coat chemically. Then, sand out the deep corrosion using 220 grit...

Gonna check out a Laverda 3C (1L triple) tomorrow. Excited.

Looking forward to your ride report, Tom. I seem to remember the Jota vibrated a good deal at higher rpm's, but this one should be at least somewhat better. About 80 hp, according to Wikipedia. Similar to a GS1000.

Super awesome! That thing looks really nice! A jewel! Good luck with the clean up. Shouldn't be too hard, if the mechanicals are as nice as the cosmetics!
