    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Chucks Skunk #2 Project

Yeah, I know you'd never attempt to ride on them...just thought I'd comment on just how 'done' they are, lol.

Those tires look like they may be past their expiration date...

    Need a vacation spot?

Beautiful architecture. For some reason, it makes me think of Versailles.

    Great point.

    New-2-Me '80 GS750L

I vote to leave the black off. It looks good on the guitar, but on the bike you'll have the grey frame and all the other shiny bits of the bike to set it off. The tank and side covers are only a piece of the whole. My opinion (and doesn't everyone have one?) is that its perfect the way it is...

    '81 550L Rebuild/Restore/Cafe/WTF??

Ya know, that's a good question. I haven't looked at it closely, but now that you mention it I will. I really don't know anything about the history of the bike. I was assuming that it's completely stock, but I suppose it's possible the gears have been replaced. It's got just a hair over...

    '81 550L Rebuild/Restore/Cafe/WTF??

Pretty much just a placeholder for now. I'll update my plans later...probably once I figure out what those plans actually are. The day she came home... How she looked this past Saturday morning... And this where she was sitting when I gave her up in favor of a bottle of wine, Saturday...

Anyone added lights to their 850L?

Have you considered an HID conversion?

    GS1000E carbs on 82 1100

I stand corrected, good to know. Wouldn't jetting be a PITA, though?

    GS1000E carbs on 82 1100

Those are VM carbs. It's possible that I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the 1100's all have CV carbs. It won't be a 'bolt-on' swap.

    GS1000E carbs on 82 1100

If they're CV carbs, they'll 'fit', but will probably need to be rejetted. If they're VM's, they're completely different and won't fit the head without modification.

    Super hard clutch lever!

Check the inside surface of your clutch basket, where the plates 'ride'. The plates had 'dug in' to soft aluminum basket of mine, and when we went to adjust it, it was damned near impossible to engage it. Swapped it out with a newer basket with a smoother interior surface and that fixed it.

    1100G brake question I can't answer???

Warped rotors is exactly what I was thinking, as well.

    80 GS750, Won't start. Where do I start?!

Make sure that circuit is completed, and isn't broken elsewhere. Also check all your grounds. Starter or starter solenoid could just be bad, too.

    80 GS750, Won't start. Where do I start?!

Looks like clutch safety switch. Twist 'em together.

    Struggled after 30 min

I could be wrong as well, but I thought it was the other way around, that 'popping' on decel was a lean condition. That would definitely fit with the other symptoms.

I feel like dumb*** for not even thinking about that one, lol
