    1981 GS1000ET in the UK.

I bought this 1981 GS1000ET in 2006. She standard including the rear air ride suspension, rear rack, crash bars. She is missing her side panel and tank decals but I do have new replacements, just got to find a painter who can put them on plus laquer the tank to cover them up. I rode her...

    GS1000ET front end overhaul.

Cheers Guy's for the suggestions on oil. Yes, it sounds daft but the three bike shops I've been in the fork oil they were selling didn't have a weight on it. As for the springs, I will measure the length and see if they are within spec. If they are I will re-use them as she was handling like...

    GS1000ET front end overhaul.

Well, its finally going to happen. After 10 years of sitting unloved in the back of the garage the GS1000ET is top of the list to sort for 2019. First up is the front forks. The tubes are pitted, seals have blown depositing oil all over the brakes and front wheel. All the NOS parts are...

    Sorting GS1000 CV carbs?

Well it's that time. After 9 years of sitting in the garage I'm going to start spannering on the GS1000E. Along with a few jobs for getting her ready for the road next summer I have to sort out the carbs. They have been left with fuel in (yes, I'm bad.) Any pointers or issues that I need...

    1981 gs1000et

Not letting her go. After the amount I spent I was having her stolen and I'm to afraid of dropping her or having an accident with her while out. So she sits under cover in the garage. For 12 years she hasn't faired too bad. Theres no rust on the frame and only a little on the exhausts and...

    1981 gs1000et

She sits in the garage with another Suzuki. You've all seen her. MY beloved GS(X)1100ESD. I've owned her since 2005 when I did a full nut and bolt strip down, shot blasted frame and full restore with new decals etc costing me in excess of ?5,500 at the time. She ran to the VJMC rally of 2006...

    1981 gs1000et

Here she is... My 1981 GS1000ET. She's been sat in the garage unloved and unworked on for nearly 8 years now. It all started when I has a slight weep from the No 1 side head bolt seal in the head gasket. Then all of a sudden the cam chain tunnel started to leak and I didnt like oil seeping out...

    Re-building a GS1000 motor.

I would always go with OEM that aftermarket but thats me. Somebody suggested a OEM MLS head gasket, I've no idea what one is and haven't found one either. Also I've not heard of these 'Viton' valve seals you talk about. Vesrah were about the only make of head gasket I knew. So looks like I...

    Fork tube tops removal?

I remember when we first bought these bikes and were told they wouldn't do more than 20,000 miles before they would blow up and be scrap! How wrong could people be? I'I just have to stop procrastinating about it and just get on and do the job.

    Re-building a GS1000 motor.

It's a 1980 head gasket thats in it so I have no idea. I like having all the parts here before works starts and I also like covering all the bases so that I have plans for everything before starting any work. Thanks for the stem seals suggestions.

    Fork tube tops removal?

Yep, thats how I was going to attack it once the bars are out of the way. That's all the fork parts, less oil, going back in or to cover if case of stuff getting damaged coming out.

    Re-building a GS1000 motor.

That's the issue I have. Once you start to play with removing valves and digging deeper into an engine the more expense you fork out. So lets play here for a minute. Parts:- Base gasket ?17.10 'O' rings ?17 (?4.15 ea) Head gasket ?103 oem Cam Chain...

    Re-building a GS1000 motor.

I wasnt planning on lifting the barrels at all. Just popping the head off, a clean up of the face and whacking the head down with a new gasket in place. Job done. She didnt smoke, use oil, compression was good so I see no need to start tinkering. Swapping valve seals, pulling the valves out...

    Re-building a GS1000 motor.

Nice looking finish on that. I dont know if its warped, just re planning to see if I need a 'machine shop' to skim it before pulling the top off. Will only find out when I put a straight edge on it once its off.

    Fork tube tops removal?

Wheel nuts, mudguard and brace, brakes, speedo are already loose so its only the yokes (triple trees for you guy's) that's holding it all together.

    Fork tube tops removal?

Cheers Steve. Planning on taking the bars, clocks, headlight and tank off to give me more space so I dont damage anything.
