A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

(first time owner) looking for hand control advice on '82 GS300L

And when you are done with your part number research at Alpha Sports, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO BUY IT. Alpha is the HIGHEST-priced site EVER. While most of the preferred sites are discounted anywhere from 15-30% from retail prices, Alpha is typically at least 10% OVER retail. .

    Starting

Have you checked valve clearances? :-k I know it does not seem related or even to make sense, but valve clearances tighten up over time and miles. Tighter clearances result in the valves closing late (if at all), which can push some of the fuel/air mixture back through the carbs, where they...

    Hello. New 1981 GS1000g owner

Nice-looking mostly stock bike. :encouragement: I agree with the concept of getting a title before putting ANY money into restoration. Don't go by what your brother's friend's uncle's girlfriend thinks, check with the DMV office yourself. .

    Valve cover breather question GS1000

Take a look at the picture you posted in the first post. Those large openings that are sorta between the two red circles are the breathing passages for the system. There should be some metal mesh blocks in there, as well as in the mating area of the breather cover that covers that area. Four...

Gs1100 needs engine rebuild. Is it even worth it?

That might depend a lot on how sentimentally attached you are to it and how mechanically-inclined you are. :-k If you can do most of the grunt labor and just contract out the special stuff (surfacing the head and block), you should be able to re-do the engine for less than $500. If you have to...

    Help identifying Manufacture year

It is my understanding that the S was a special sub-model of the E. In various parts of the world it was either red and white or blue and white, made to look a bit like the bike that Wes Cooley used to win the championship. Although it was made to look a bit like the championship bike, it is...

Dirt cheap Dunlop Elite 4 tires

I can guarantee that the E4s are MUCH better than the old 491 Elite II. I had some 491s on my KZ1300 for a while. Different bike now with the E4s, but handling is still handling. My son is a bit more "rambunctious" with his 1000G than I am with my 850G, he has had no complaint. As far as...

    Replacing Carb Diaphragms?

If/when you do get the new diaphrams on, make sure they are clocked correctly. :-k When the tab on the diaphragm is in its notch, the vent hole in the bottom of the slide should be directly downstream from the needle. .

Dirt cheap Dunlop Elite 4 tires

You must have an OLD Wing. :-k I just checked on the price for a rear tire for MY Wing, it's $225. If you can find E4 tires that fit your bike, get them. If you can find a set for $140, even better. :encouragement: A set of Shinko tires for our GSes goes for about $140. .

ISO Pictures or "embossed numbering" order on lower crankcase 1980 GS850 GL Model T

Are you aware that Suzuki never painted the bottom case? You are free to do what you want, but if you are rebuilding it with hopes of entering a concours competition, you will lose points on that detail. :-k On the other hand, ... when is the last time anyone entered their GS in a concours? .

    Hot Cam in a GS850?

A rough recap of "all those reasons": - Yes, it's possible to install a hotter cam. - Because the 850 has one of the lowest power-to-weight ratios of all the GSes, it might be enough to notice. - The 850 has a wonderfully-wide power band which suits its intended purpose. - Installing hotter cams...

Best point to wire in accessories

The fact that your situation clears up by 3000 RPM tells you that it's simply not producing enough current until that point. With the stock stator and regulator, the stator will be producing as much current as it can, all the time. The output increases with engine speed and just barely matches...
