A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1980 gs1000-st swingarm

Find the right size socket/driver to install the bearing. Put the bearing in the freezer overnight then heat up the the swingarm bearing area right before installing bearing. Treaded rod and washers work well also to pull bearing in.

    Simple and affordable mods?

Z1 enterprises has them and I believe Sprocket Specialist does also. They will get you into the right ratio to get you close to stock. Bumping up 1or 2 teeth in the rear will help acceleration without raising the rpm's to much on the highway.

One of the coolest part of my new old GS

The track day youngsters couldnt even figure out what it was. Its why I bought my 900 Sprint. Most of the Harley guys owned Triumph's back in the day. Almost every time I was gassing it up sparked a conversation.

Vintage, not fast enough for Track days?

I went faster on a VF500F than on my GS1000/1100 with pipes and carbs. Plus it helped me learn not to to rely on HP. But it sounded like a....Honda

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Good read and tips. Just getting ready to start plating. What type of heater did you use for the cleaner/degreaser? Caswell recommends 190 degree's. I can probably get 140 degrees out of my sonic cleaner? I have media blasted some parts with 50-80G glass beads. Will they still need degreasing...

    Motorcycle Camping Advice

Unless you have nice gear, and can stay at a once in a lifetime place. I would hotel it. I would rather ride than pack twice a day. Plus, when I park the bike and I'm off hiking, I worry about security of non-lockable items. Get breakfast at their continental breakfast. Pack a bag of non...

Remove excess weight. Not sure if those run a 630 chain/sprocket. If yes, ditch it.

Little late to the show, here's a link to the second race. Lot's of Kat's in there and phenomenal racing of 35 y/o bikes. What is a 83 Yamaha FJ1250? FJ1100's didn't come out till '84. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDJZVynhOq8 Here's a review of some of the big Kat's...

5k ohm or 10k ohm plug caps

So would 5k (VB05F and XB05F) caps along with BR8ES, or in the case of a 4v motor, DR8EA be the way to go with pointless type ignitions? Both specify non-resistor type plugs. Would Dyna coils make a difference in either caps or plugs?

    Replacement motorcycle jacket

Joe Rocket and Tour Master have nice Textile stuff at good prices. I also have a HD FXRG leather jacket. Its expensive, very heavy, durable in a crash, with the removable liner its very warm(needed in Mn.!), with liner out its vented well enough to wear in hot weather provided your moving...

    Bike stands.

That is really nice. Simple, light, east to store, safe. To my other GS brothers, the hoist is being used to lift a spare Sprint off the floor for more storage space. I tried 2x4,s under the wheels, didn't change. I got 55 bucks into this scissor lift, I can't give up yet....

    Bike stands.

Here's the adopter I made for the venom stand. its 2" longer. Gets it higher but not far enough. I am interested in what your crossbar lift looks like. I was thinking of something for the scissors jack that catches the crossbar behind the exhaust, but that upper frame member would get it away...

Using a front master cylinder for dual discs with 1 disc

Kawasaki EX500's have a 1/2 inch bore. It's a common mod on ZRX's. Its been argued to death, but the smaller bore gives better feel and more pressure. I will not debate it. It works. Here's a link...
