A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Sparking ignition points

ebay.com comes up with heaps. I believe the same points are used 1000, 750, 550. I think the condensers vary a little but it doesn't matter they will all work. For those kinds of parts I would ALWAYS fit OEM certainly not cheapo copies. I know what you say about failing condensers, here in Kenya...

    Sparking ignition points

If the points are not scrupulously clean they will arc. I clean mine with paper. I would not go with electronic. There's nothing wrong with points on these old bikes. You can usually do something on the side of the road in the event of a problem with points ignition. A CDI there's no chance of...

    Chain not consistently tracking straight

Just roll it on a flat surface. It doesn't rotate and is highly unlikely bent so is not going to be your isuue. I remember Londonboards had something similar happen to him. I can't remember what he did in the end but his started when the chain came off and jammed in the swing arm and sprocket...

Katana - 1135EFE - spark plug blown out of head.

It's hard to see without being there. Do you have access to another bike the same where you can do some comparison measurements? The reason I ask is there looks like a wrinkle (in blue)... and the cam cover clearance looks awful close to the frame. Maybe take a close look all around that area...

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

Leave it on the jack/stand, put the bike in gear and rock the wheel back and forth by hand see if there's anything unusual there, try taking it out of gear and rotating the wheel by hand listen and feel for anything... Check the oil in the bevel gear, is it dirty with debris....

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

It sounds like a shaft issue, you could maybe see something unusual in checking the lash by putting it in gear, holding the crank still on the nut and rocking the wheel back and forth. You might see or hear something that might help diagnose...?

    Brass Nuts

Not for me. Stainless is a PIA when it binds up and on an exhaust it has plenty of opportunity to.

    Brass Nuts

I have been meaning to over the years to swap the exhaust port nuts from the ridiculous mild steel nuts to brass for my bikes. There always used to be brass nuts on the exhaust manifolds on cars a long time ago. No fear of them corroding and seizing on. All the endless messing if the stud...

    leaking fuel *help*

This happens a lot with my bikes because they have long unused periods, It is always the tee piece and the straight joiner between 1 & 2, 3 & 4 they drip for a few minutes then seal up. I put a rag under the carbs till it stops... I saw some nice turned ones on ebay, I think when the time comes...

    Sidecar on the T120

I've only just seen this thread so a bit late. In UK we used to have these. Red Devil Motors: Sidewinder learner sidecar Absolutely did not change the characteristics of the bike attached. I remember following one of these rigs and it id didn't slow the guy down at all, at speed it used to...

A word of Warning regarding Chains

Some interesting reading here... 241052 Vis_016-048 (daidocorp.com) They mention chain temperature here: DID Chain Questions and Answers - YouTube 30*/40* above ambient.. I know that DID do differing qualities of chain. I could only get one kind I forget which but the link plates were...

    '79 GS1000E project start

Those slotted discs have a different pattern to my ones, I don't remember but I think my ones are slightly larger in diameter than the standard '79 ones. I upgraded to the later calipers with the square type pads. Much more effective than the old round pad kind. Dan is the brake expert I'm sure...

    '79 GS1000E project start

What Ed says.... I see you stuck with the oil cooler, maybe a set of GS750 oil pump drive gears might help what with the extra long flow that the oil now has to travel? Many chuck these in as a matter of course I have on my S, I also had set from a drag racer lady in UK called Clair Rule she had...

    Speedometer/tach lube?

Exactly, it's unlikely that the actual the tiny shaft the needle is on will ever need lubing. However the shaft that the magnet sits on and the cable pushes into does. This is easy because you can see it when you take the cable off. I use ACF 50 because that stuff is super lubey and very thin it...

    Speedometer/tach lube?

It's very simple, the cable is connected to a magnet that is spun as the cable rotates, over the magnet is an aluminum cup with mild 2 steel strips of a specific width that is connected to the needle with a hair spring so as the magnet spins it attracts the strips on the ally cup but doesn't...
